Hide Among The Grass - HATG

Description
[github.com]
Hide Among The Grass (HATG) is a performance-focused solution to all things stealth.

This mod was originally designed as an alternative to ACSTG but we very quickly realised we could do more.

You will only be hidden when prone or crouched (and standing, if in a building). A variety of factors apply, such as enemies being close or what surface you are on. These can all be configured!

Other AI mods should be compatible. This mod does not touch AI behaviour, it functions around the way AI "sees".

Features
  • The ability to hide among the grass.

  • The ability to revamp your stealth gameplay. Ever wanted a ghillie suit to actually stop the AI from seeing you? Now it does.

  • A logical and simplistic approach to concealment. Shooting from afar with a suppressor? You'll remain hidden for longer.

  • A minimalistic UI to help you know when you are hidden or not. This is ON by default. If you prefer a more "realistic" setting, you can turn it off in the settings.

  • A "simple mode" setting so you don't have to worry about configuring settings one by one.

  • Environmental consideration. During the night or if it is raining/foggy, detection distance will be lowered.

  • Flexible CBA settings, allowing you to change just about anything in the mod.

  • Singleplayer support. Your AI squad will have the same stealth possibilities as you do! (Only in SP)

  • Localization. Note: Only English and Russian have been translated by humans. Feel free to check out our github at the bottom of the page and fix any translation errors!

Questions
  • "Why can't I do X or Y when I'm hidden?"

This is due to engine limitations. You can bind a key to toggle HATG functionality on/off when you need.

  • "What's the difference between this mod and ACSTG?"

The main difference between HATG and ACSTG is:
HATG is faster and better for performance.

This is by no means a jab at ACSTG - this idea came from ACSTG and I think parts of their solution are quite smart but lack optimization.

Read the github[github.com] for more information about ACSTG vs HATG performance if you wish.

  • "Is this mod compatible with X?"

Generally, yes. This mod was actually designed and heavily tested on Antistasi Ultimate with the help of the Antistasi Ultimate Community[discord.gg].

It is not advised to run this mod with ACSTG. HATG and ACSTG both achieve similar things and may conflict.

  • "Is this mod clientside?"

No. HATG uses a custom object which needs to be available on the server or else it will not block AI vision.

This may be possible in the future in which a different method will be used if the server does not have HATG.

  • "How does this mod work?"

When you meet the requirements to be "hidden", a box is created and attached to you.

This box prevents the AI from seeing you.

Notes

Common Issues:
- "I can't see the UI, even though it is on"
> You may have to change the UI Y position in the addon options.

- "The mod is preventing me from interacting with things, etc"
> Bind the "Toggle HATG" keybind and use it to disable the mod when you need to.

Special thanks to:
- stutpip123 for giving the "mirror" idea and allowing us to extensively test this on his servers.
- The Antistasi Ultimate Community[discord.gg] for putting up with our testing and debugging.
- ACSTG for the inspiration to start this project.

Our aim is to allow this mod to be further developed by the community if they wish, GitHub link below.

I recommend disabling the UI if you want an immersive experience. When the mod first launched that was the default, but many people didn't understand how to enable it if they wanted it.

Awesome mod, but why in the world is the default UI so comically garish and distracting? Friends are always like 'wtf is on my screen' whenever I add this to a playset.

I would recommend changing the default UI setting to be the icon with 1.0 size and grey coloring for both hidden and revealed (I use 0.5, 0.5, 0.5). (Also would love if the icon got rid of the drop-shadow).

It would also be nice to have a setting that only shows the UI when revealed instead of all the time.

No mod's default setting should take up 10% of the screen with intense bright colors.

How come at a slope, that of which the likes are very common in Altis, HATG does not prevent the AI from shooting me through glass, say, if I’m at a negative decline?

This is badass. Great work. but yeah is it compatible with dynamic camo system? I don't see why it wouldn't be since this just completely blocks AIs view and that adds a co-efficient checked against your outfit's average color and the ground's average color

Is this compatible with the dynamic camo system mod?

"Realism" is a slippery slope, and a very vague term

You could always create a pull request to allow crouching to work next to a bush, even if the setting is disabled

Either way, checking the length of each blade of grass every iteration simply isn't possible or feasible (and wouldn't account for grass settings, either)

not very realistic. 'hidden' when I was crouching even in very short grass. So I turn off the 'hidden when crouch' option and then its the exteme opposite - you can crouch inside a bush and you can still be seen.

@silence Done and done. Thanks!
