The reasoning behind these choices: Since it is questionable that Big Brother is a real, living person, it makes sense that the other totalitarian nations would also have 'immortal' figureheads; if the party says Mao Zedong is still alive, then he is still alive. Valentina Tereshkova was chosen because she really, really looks the part, like she could raise 8 kids while commanding an army. For the free countries, I wanted real military officers who would not be easily recognized, they had to look authentic. In the end I made an exception for Omar Sharif because that pic was simply a lot better than everything else I had found.
