how do you get the mod to actually be visible? i subscribed and the base stations look exactly the same
Reticent Echo Nov 23, 2021 @ 7:09pm
Since none of the instructions are very clear, I thought I'd take a crack at it, there is a way to make this work. It takes renaming some files from the mod and moving them to the SteamVR installation directory.

Note: These instructions are for Valve Index, they will make your base stations look like Vive base stations.

Note: The reason this mod no longer works out of the box is because Valve removed an option to quick "skin" your base stations from SteamVR.
Reticent Echo Nov 23, 2021 @ 7:09pm
1. Subscribe to the mod.

2. Go to mod directory, where ever SteamVR is installed and look for the folder containing the mod.

Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\250820\711411281\lh_basestation_vive

3. Rename the following files.

"lh_basestation_vive.png" ---to--- "lh_basestation_valve_gen2.png"

"lh_basestation_vive.obj" ---to--- "lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj"

4. Open "lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj" with a text editor, replace the 3rd line with the following phrase, after you are done, save and close the text editor.

mtllib lh_basestation_valve_gen2.mtl

5. You have modified 2 files, you will now move the 2 files you modified and replace the existing files in the SteamVR installation directory.

Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\rendermodels\lh_basestation_valve_gen2

6. Launch SteamVR.

7. To view your new base stations, press the power button on the Index controllers to bring up the menu, on the bottom left, click the menu to Exit Steam VR.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this information!
Will this work the same for 4x 2.0 base stations?
fearless208 Jan 24, 2021 @ 12:33am
Dakusan i did the but now what everything seems the same how do i activate it
Dakusan Jan 18, 2021 @ 2:47am
[See below post for initial instructions]

f you're using 2.0 base stations the instructions are slightly different. Instead of lh_basestation_vive you are going to be replacing files in lh_basestation_valve_gen2 (after backing them up).

Replace (via rename) lh_basestation_valve_gen2.png with lh_basestation_vive.png
Replace (via rename) lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj with lh_basestation_vive.obj
Edit the new lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj with a text editor :: Replace the third line "mtllib lh_basestation_vive.mtl" with "mtllib lh_basestation_valve_gen2.mtl"

From Seal dog in the following thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/0/3909619434446918863/?ctp=2

You can just go to the workshop folder of this file and replace (after making a backup) the files in the SteamVR folder.
Tested it just now, and it works!

go to ...\steamapps\workshop\content\250820\711411281 grab the lh_basestation_vive and copy it.
go to ...\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\rendermodels and rename the original lh_basestation_vive to lh_basestation_vive_BACKUP now paste the workshop folder in the SteamVR folder and start (or restart) Steam and SteamVR.
I'm sure you can do this with all the other workshop items too, and this is the way you usually mod games without integrated modding tools.
They usually have 3rd party tools that do the moving and backing up for you.

This was hands down the best basestations skin mod and helped immensely with adjusting the lighthouses.. thanks to valve this doesn't work anymore.
Nostrildumbass Aug 22, 2020 @ 12:26pm
Goobs, this doesn't work anymore as far as I know, because one of the SteamVR updates removed the ability to change the skin of the lighthouses
Goobs Jul 29, 2020 @ 4:14pm
how are you suppose to use this?!
Nostrildumbass Jun 27, 2020 @ 12:48pm
ItzNick, this is intended for Valve's lighthouses. There's a free app on the Oculus store that does the same thing for the Oculus sensors. I think it's called sensor bounds or something like that
ItzStix Jun 14, 2020 @ 11:12pm
So, when I use this app, it doesn't line my base stations up where they are supposed to be, it could be possible it's doing that becuase I am a oculus FBT user and not using a vive? is there any way in fixing this? or no?
Myrkur Feb 4, 2020 @ 5:43pm
the option to change skins was deprecated sadly can you provide the actaul files instead so we can manually install this?
Nostrildumbass Feb 3, 2020 @ 8:24pm
Once you subscribe to it, you go to your SteamVR settings and change the skin for "Camera" which are the basestations.
bibstudent Feb 1, 2020 @ 5:08pm
Agree. Can you add description how to start this?
Dingerdonger Jan 31, 2020 @ 4:48pm
How do i use this? i cant find any customize screen in vr home
ragesaq May 4, 2019 @ 6:28pm
Any chance of this getting updated ior a new one made for the new 2.0 base station FOV?
Easy Bot Oct 12, 2018 @ 3:01pm
I'm so clueless here, how do I run this tool?

I don't have HTC Vive. I've just installed SteamVR. I have a Vive Lighthouse that's connected via microUSB to this computer and powered by 12V.
Mr. Bastard Jul 24, 2018 @ 7:55am
The 2.0 base stations have a wider FOV (150-degree horizontal 110-degree vertical). Does this workshop automatically adjust or is it just replacing the stock base station model with a modified one? https://enterprise.vive.com/eu/support/vive-pro/category_howto/tips-for-setting-up-the-base-stations.html
madoc_ab_owain Mar 31, 2018 @ 5:45am
@Wolfie Fox I am also having this issue. I had one station that had the visualizer already applied, and even that one wouldn't show the skin in the settings, just the reset to default button. Of course I pushed the shiny blue button and wiped the skin, and can't get it back again. Can the original author respond and perhaps update the skin? Another Q - do ANY of the base station skins work properly at this time???
MightyBalian Mar 14, 2018 @ 12:34am
@Lyvondria I'm having the same issue. Can't get this to work either. Same issue. I move the basestation and the whole playspace shifts. I even tried marking the center with a controller but the controller just drifts away after I turn the basestation back on. I'm completely losing my mind right now.
Yisarus Feb 15, 2018 @ 8:14am
For some reason I am unable to set the basestation skin in Steam settings. All I see is a button to reset to default.
ppOverheater Jan 25, 2018 @ 1:29pm
I think its impossible to align them because everytime I move them even if i unplug them from power, my play area moves <.<
ppOverheater Jan 25, 2018 @ 1:04pm
But how you know it when you put your base station off? oO I moved mine down while it was off but the app still sticks at the same position...
c--b  [author] Jan 25, 2018 @ 12:58pm
Yup, you want the main "laser" at a roughly 45 degree angle down, both pointing at the center of the play area. Yup, just shut one down and adjust, then turn it on.
ppOverheater Jan 25, 2018 @ 12:56pm
Ah okey got it. So how should I do this? Turn one basestation off and align them both to the center of my play area?
c--b  [author] Jan 25, 2018 @ 12:51pm
This is probably the easiest way to explain https://www.vrheads.com/how-apply-skins-your-htc-vive-base-stations
ppOverheater Jan 25, 2018 @ 12:42pm
Im completly lost tbh. Can you accept me and tell me exactly where? In SteamVR Home? I cant find anything in the settings Q_Q What you mean by changing the model?
c--b  [author] Jan 25, 2018 @ 12:32pm
Hello Lyvondria, you can use it by changing the model for the basestations. You can do this from the steam menu settings in VR (The cog at the bottom right).
ppOverheater Jan 25, 2018 @ 12:29pm
I subscribed to it as well and how can I launch it? There is no settings on the camera or something like that on SteamVR https://i.imgur.com/yA0kmP9.png
c--b  [author] Aug 26, 2017 @ 5:55pm
It's applied as a basestation model in steam VR (Click the settings gear while in VR at the bottom right).
holmesksp Aug 25, 2017 @ 10:48am
Bit of a noob question but after you have subscribed on the steam page and let it sit for a while then restarted how do you launch this? I'm sure I am missing something obvious.
Thoreaufare Jun 29, 2017 @ 9:29pm
This is a great tool and I'm surprised that nothing like this is involved with the initial room setup. Really helpful!
tsoward Jun 29, 2017 @ 10:52am
I have literally spent months troubleshooting my room setup and experimenting with different placement of base stations, and in one night this download has allowed me to get my tracking dialed in with no dead spots or tracking issues. Huge thanks to the author!
tsoward Jun 28, 2017 @ 4:56pm
This looks like exactly what I've been looking for. Going to give this a try this evening. Really hoping I can get some of my weird tracking issues resolved. Thanks!
iBri Jun 3, 2017 @ 6:50am
Note that this is only useful out of the box if your lighthouses are both vertical, that is with the LED to the top and the lettering vertical.
76561198337972596 Feb 13, 2017 @ 9:22am
Thanks, this really helped me to aim the basestations at a play area that wasn't in the center of the room.
Psythik Jan 27, 2017 @ 1:39pm
In case anyone's wondering, the higher up lasers are supposed to point at the other box, and the lasers pointing down are supposed to point to the center of your play space.

It doesn't have to be 100% perfect, however; my angled lasers are a couple feet off from pointing perfectly in the middle but tracking is still flawless.
Captain Kiwii Jan 26, 2017 @ 4:12pm
Awesome! thanks
Negcreep Jan 24, 2017 @ 1:08pm
Thanks, this helped me sort out my tracking problems. I didn't realise just how much the basestations need to be aimed downwards, especially with a small space.
Turbatus Dec 27, 2016 @ 1:42pm
It's only 1 game that I thought could be a tracking issue, everything else is flawless. But I do thank you for your time and help!
c--b  [author] Dec 27, 2016 @ 1:24pm
That should be just fine, if you aren't getting tracking in most games, it's likely another problem. In that case, check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/wiki/troubleshooting
Turbatus Dec 27, 2016 @ 1:17pm
By hitting the center of my playspace, I assume you mean Actually touching the floor? And for it to look like a perfect V? Mine are currently not perfectly aligned, but both hit the general area.... How much of an impact is this making? There is 1 game in particular that feels light it might possibly be tracking, but it's only 1 game, and it isn't my computer not being strong enough... My hands kind of jutter and ghost a bit.
c--b  [author] Dec 27, 2016 @ 9:22am
The ideal scenario is to have both of the front facing 'lasers' hit the center of your playspace. And the upper lasers are for aligning the sync light and shouild be roughly facing each-other (Unless you're using the sync cable).

Also, some more tips:

-if you're using the wall mounts that come with the vive, mount from the bottom hole on the basestations, not the back. The bottom hole provides more support (The weight is distributed closer to the center), the vibrations eventually shake the bases loose requiring recalibration when using the rear mounting hole.

-Yes, that spoon you left out is causing tracking problems (Reflections).
Turbatus Dec 27, 2016 @ 1:06am
Also wondering how they are supposed to look ideally...
wu.Snowflake Dec 26, 2016 @ 8:31am
I see the lasers but how do I know if I actually have them aligned best? Are the upper lasers supposed to go to the other station? Mine go above it by a few feet...
Burnsides Dec 24, 2016 @ 10:47pm
Really awesome for seeing your workable space, and a cool effect
Nanoha Dec 18, 2016 @ 1:52am
I haven't tried this yet but it sounds perfect, exactly what I was hoping for. There's only so much the top down view in dev options can show you.
rainabba Dec 11, 2016 @ 8:28am
Thank you.
