Basestation FOV Visualizer (+Alignment Lasers!)

Description
A quick and dirty way of visualising the field of view of the basestations. It has one 'laser' at a 45 degree angle upwards for aligning the two basestations optical sync sensors. There's another laser pointing straight ahead for positioning each basestation towards the ground at the proper angle. Simply align the front facing 'laser' to the center of your play area, and the top 'laser' with the other base station while the basestations are powered off.

The primary feature is the Field of View visualization, shown as a two colored field of view cone, coloured two colours for easier viewing and proper orientation. Be sure not to move the Basestations while they're running, remember that there are high speed moving parts inside, and that rotating a basestation while it's on can increase wear on the rotating parts inside.

Also, thanks to all of you for the feedback.

how do you get the mod to actually be visible? i subscribed and the base stations look exactly the same

Since none of the instructions are very clear, I thought I'd take a crack at it, there is a way to make this work. It takes renaming some files from the mod and moving them to the SteamVR installation directory.

Note: These instructions are for Valve Index, they will make your base stations look like Vive base stations.

Note: The reason this mod no longer works out of the box is because Valve removed an option to quick "skin" your base stations from SteamVR.

1. Subscribe to the mod.

2. Go to mod directory, where ever SteamVR is installed and look for the folder containing the mod.

Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\250820\711411281\lh_basestation_vive

3. Rename the following files.

"lh_basestation_vive.png" ---to--- "lh_basestation_valve_gen2.png"

"lh_basestation_vive.obj" ---to--- "lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj"

4. Open "lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj" with a text editor, replace the 3rd line with the following phrase, after you are done, save and close the text editor.

mtllib lh_basestation_valve_gen2.mtl

5. You have modified 2 files, you will now move the 2 files you modified and replace the existing files in the SteamVR installation directory.

Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\rendermodels\lh_basestation_valve_gen2

6. Launch SteamVR.

7. To view your new base stations, press the power button on the Index controllers to bring up the menu, on the bottom left, click the menu to Exit Steam VR.

Enjoy!

Thanks for this information!
Will this work the same for 4x 2.0 base stations?

Dakusan i did the but now what everything seems the same how do i activate it

[See below post for initial instructions]

f you're using 2.0 base stations the instructions are slightly different. Instead of lh_basestation_vive you are going to be replacing files in lh_basestation_valve_gen2 (after backing them up).

Replace (via rename) lh_basestation_valve_gen2.png with lh_basestation_vive.png
Replace (via rename) lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj with lh_basestation_vive.obj
Edit the new lh_basestation_valve_gen2.obj with a text editor :: Replace the third line "mtllib lh_basestation_vive.mtl" with "mtllib lh_basestation_valve_gen2.mtl"

From Seal dog in the following thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/0/3909619434446918863/?ctp=2

You can just go to the workshop folder of this file and replace (after making a backup) the files in the SteamVR folder.
Tested it just now, and it works!

go to ...\steamapps\workshop\content\250820\711411281 grab the lh_basestation_vive and copy it.
go to ...\steamapps\common\SteamVR\resources\rendermodels and rename the original lh_basestation_vive to lh_basestation_vive_BACKUP now paste the workshop folder in the SteamVR folder and start (or restart) Steam and SteamVR.
I'm sure you can do this with all the other workshop items too, and this is the way you usually mod games without integrated modding tools.
They usually have 3rd party tools that do the moving and backing up for you.

This was hands down the best basestations skin mod and helped immensely with adjusting the lighthouses.. thanks to valve this doesn't work anymore.
Nostrildumbass Aug 22, 2020 @ 12:26pm
Goobs, this doesn't work anymore as far as I know, because one of the SteamVR updates removed the ability to change the skin of the lighthouses

how are you suppose to use this?!
