It's actually already on VRChat. I used a different art style for the VRChat version though. It's also bigger, and with more places to explore.

Here is the link to: Bag End - Hobbiton Day, for VRChat:

Hey, sorry I have no plans of making this for Oculus. I haven't thought about making it as a standalone app though, I'll have to think about doing something like that down the track. No promises tho. Sorry to hear about your wife. It would be an amazing place to live. I'm glad to hear you really enjoyed it. I have made it for VRChat, but it's only for the PC version due to how much detail is in the world.
On VRChat it's called: Bag End - Hobbiton. Tags are: hobbit, lotr, shire, bagend, hobbiton
Jun 3, 2023 @ 12:14am
What's the tag for vrchat? I've looked all over can't find this world listed
Jun 2, 2023 @ 11:36pm
I really hope that this will eventually be a download able app I can keep on my Oculus, and be able to jump in offline. The detail, the homey feel, it's everything I hoped to see. I really would love to have locomotive movement, I know in steam home teleporting is the only option. This is amazing find, this was the home me and my wife, who's no longer with me, dreamt of. It's such a great escape, please post if you ever do make this into a standalone app, being able to jump in anywhere regardless of internet and freely walk around would be so relaxing and relieving. Thank you for making this.

Thanks for the kind words Andy. I'm glad I can bring joy to others with my creations. :)

My friend.

You Sir, are a genius.

Having brought so many, a "dream come true." To be able to explore, in "all around, life sized VR," the beloved Bag End.

As well as being able to wander through (even part of ) the Shire, with its rolling, tranquil beauty. Is a special thing indeed.

You have my, and I am sure MANY more LOTR lovers, thanks.

Kudos.
"You have my Bow." :Shoot:

The VRChat version of this is out now.

It has a completely different style to this one. It's a more vibrant and cartoony version. In saying that, Bag End itself probably looks more detailed and accurate in the VRChat version, mostly due to the baked global illumination lighting. Which I wasn't able to do for the SteamVR Home version, due to it crashing when baking the global illumination in Hammer. Probably due to not enough RAM.

The landscape around Bag End is also bigger, and I've also added some rooms to some of the other hobbit houses around my smaller version of Hobbiton.

Hey, glad to hear you're enjoying this.

I haven't been working on this lately, but I do need to fix a few things from the last big update. Maybe I could have a go at making a smoking pipe when I get around to doing the next small update to fix those other issues. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it be a pickup item though.
Jul 28, 2022 @ 9:19am
hey, i don't know if you're still working on this map at all but i think it's a nice place to vibe and host a room. I figured I'd ask if you would/know how to make a pipe or even make it smoke, since you seem to add a few interactive items in all your maps. Thanks for the cool map either way!

Hi. All the textures in this project are from Valve's Asset Packs. If you're wanting to use these textures for something other than a SteamVR Home Environment, you'll probably have to ask Valve. But if you're only wanting to use them for a SteamVR Home Environment that you're making, they are freely available to use. You'll just need to add the asset packs to your project.

These are the asset packs I used:
Summit Pavilion
Summit Pavilion Remix
Gulping Goat Space Farm
Candy Emporium
Winter Peak

Hi! May i ask if i can have access to textures used in your project BagEnd?

Thanks. Did you just check out the new Bag End v1.7 which I just uploaded?

My next projects will be using Blender for the creation of all my assets, worlds, etc. It has way more control, and will allow me to make even more detailed things. I kinda wanna remake this whole Bag End environment using Blender(now that I know how to use it). But it'll have to wait for another day(year(s)), as it would take awhile, and I have other things I wanna work on now. I might start working on making a more accurate Hobbiton environment when I feel like a break from my other projects, and have it as a side project I slowly work on.

I also already have a bigger version of this Bag End environment made for VRChat, but I can't make it public for people to use, due to not being high enough level yet. It has a more cartoon look to it.

I'm just finishing up the last few things for the new v1.7 update. I should hopefully be able to upload it in the next few hours.

You're welcome. Unfortunately with the way things are at the moment(with pricing and availability), it might be a year or two before I can upgrade.

Thanks for the update! Can't wait for you to get a new computer / video card so you can add even more to the world, ha!

Jan 8, 2022 @ 11:11pm
Thanks. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, and noticed some of the creative ways I tried to use Valves assets. I know it can get a bit boring seeing the same assets over and over, so I tried to use them in more creative ways. I will try to include more custom assets in future projects as I get better at creating my own assets. And possibly even add some more custom assets to this over time.

Update on the next update(v1.7): I've had to scale down the landscape from the VRChat version(Not yet released) of this, but it should still improve the outside area a lot, and allow you to walk down to the lake, and have a few other hobbit houses to see(you won't be able to go inside them though, due to this world getting too big for my computer to handle all the baking/compiling).
Jan 8, 2022 @ 8:21pm
This is so cool! Really appreciate how you got creative with the Valve-based assets to try and get them to fit the world. Great job!

Nov 6, 2021 @ 10:28pm
Yeah, there are three in total. But two of them are out of bounds. So you'll have to teleport through the invisible wall outside to find them.

I think I'm near the limits of light baking with my computer, so I can't add much more without it crashing the editor when trying to bake the lighting for the world. I'm currently making this world for VRChat. And I've done a big overhaul on the surrounding landscape for it. I want to try and use as much of that updated landscape as I can for this SteamVR version once I've finished the VRChat version. Not sure when that'll be yet.
Nov 6, 2021 @ 9:39am
Are you planning on keeping updating it? It is so cool
Nov 6, 2021 @ 9:38am
Is there another hidden T-rex?
LucidKiwi  [author]
Nov 4, 2021 @ 2:02am
Cool. Lol, Yeah I think I made it so you can pickup all the dinosaurs. But I changed it so the hidden ones didn't have the yellow outline when grabbing them.
Oct 30, 2021 @ 7:07am
Found the ring! We ended up figuring out a way to grab the Trex and put him outside. I think I we have like 10 clones of it now. Lol

Yes, the One Ring is hidden somewhere inside the house. That's great to hear. You're welcome.

Did you hide the ring? My 9-year-old daughter loves this! Thank you for making it.

Thank you.

SteamVR got a new feature recently that allows you dock windows inside VR. But I haven't tested it out, so I'm not sure if it'd allow what you're wanting.

This is the update: https://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/announcements/detail/2969548216412141657
Sep 18, 2021 @ 11:55am
Wonderful job. I just need to pick a spot to sit to rewatch the films.

I really wish they'd implement a full-resolution e-reader in the software. It'd be an even better place to sit and read to books again!

@Sammbert, You're welcome. I only knew about that because I like to keep up with all the change logs for SteamVR. So if you don't check them, or the news section, it would have been easy to not know about that feature. Unless they say about it in a tutorial when you first use SteamVR Home.

@Hircin, Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Making custom models like the nazguls is a bit beyond my skills right now. The other things you found were models from the asset packs I used. All the pick-up-able objects, trees, plants, animals, chairs, the tables/shelves in the pantry, etc, are all from the asset packs. Most of the tables in the other parts of the house I custom made to be like the real tables in Bag End. And the whole house itself and the terrain outside was made by me.
Aug 28, 2021 @ 2:51pm
ok thanks I am dumb I will do that
Aug 28, 2021 @ 5:18am
i did find the other ones too. really cool, if possible should have been the nazguls there. really cool and godly made anyhow fun to explore and use

If you are talking about the Recent Apps, Friends List, and Rooms List menus, they can be added by you. To add them, bring up the SteamVR Home menu, then click on 'Things', then on 'Panels', and add the ones you need. Grab them with your controller to move them around.

Once you've got them all setup how you like, go back to the main SteamVR Home menu again, and click 'Save This Environment' in the bottom left area. And then click 'Set As Home' after you've saved it.
Aug 27, 2021 @ 7:44pm
Could you please make a version with the menus so I can make this my home?

Aug 25, 2021 @ 4:15pm
Yeah they are in both versions. They'll be easier to see in the day version.
Aug 25, 2021 @ 4:03pm
ah okey will go look for them too haha. are they both in night and day version or night only?

Aug 25, 2021 @ 2:05pm
Sorry, hope it didn't scare you to much. Yeah I tried to warn anyone who opens it with the boards and note in front of the door. And no, it doesn't move, it's just a static object.
You might find a couple more if you go exploring out of bounds outside.
Aug 25, 2021 @ 1:19pm
me being happy as ever walking around looking for nazguls to be there. not popping up but be there somewhere i went to the freezer and regretted very quickly going behind the boarded door. its boarded for a reason xD wasnt ready and my soul left my body for a sec. just need 1 clarification. does it move or is it just there ?

I've just uploaded a small update(v1.6) for Bag End to fix a few small issues I've noticed since the v1.5 release. I also improved the front door, and added in Gandalf's staff and hat (Thanks for that suggestion).
LucidKiwi  [author]
Jul 12, 2021 @ 8:36pm
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I actually had a wizards hat near the front door during the creation of this, but I must have removed it at some stage. But that's a good idea to add his staff and hat near the front door.
Jul 12, 2021 @ 7:47pm
This was amazing. The grandest environment I have seen so far. It's not a perfect recreation, of course, but it does give the sense of being in the home Bilbo and Frodo Baggins. A fantastic job! One thing came to mind, reading the other comments, that might be a nice touch. What if you had Gandalf's hat and staff propped by the front door? I thought he placed them there in "Fellowship". That would give the feeling that he was around. Again, loved it!

Thanks.

Unfortunately I will not be making it as a Oculus Quest 2 Home, because I'd rather spend my time making stuff for open platforms that everyone has access to.

This would likely be low FPS on Quest 2, as it contains a lot of detail. I can't even run it smoothly on my PC, unless I'm in one of the smaller rooms.

Also, this uses a lot of Valve's assets (plants, trees, food, textures, and other small props). And I've no idea if you are even allowed to use them in other projects, like for an Oculus Quest 2 Home.

I also have no idea how to even port those assets over to something else. And without those assets, all the missing stuff would need to be replaced, which would be a big job. And I don't really want someone else using my environment, sorry.

I am thinking about porting it over to VRChat, and replacing all the missing assets with Unity Store assets. But I'd need to learn how to use Unity first, and I have other things I want to do before I attempt this(if I do it).
