When I played with Salty JDL, the AIs were set to the HARDEST setting, and this could explain why they switched me back to their enemy after I allied back with them after the trigger set them to my enemies.
rakovsky Jul 19, 2021 @ 7:52pm
As P1, I beat it with [Salty]JDL as P2 and ally, and with P3-P7 as enemy AIs, except for the Yellow AI who was my ally too. It took about 2 hours 17 minutes to beat the game with the "Blue, Red, Yellow" Victory trigger where P2 built a castle in place of Florus' castle and defeated P5 and P7. The teams weren't locked, but it seemed that everyone fought everyone else (except for me and P2 being allied with each other) anyway. For a little bit, Roman Egypt (the Orange Player) was allied with me when I switched him back to Ally as soon as the Trigger made him my enemy. But at some point he went back to being my enemy and attacked me. Salty JDL was a great Player. My starting towns got turned to rubble by the AIs and I had to make bases instead under the protective areas of Yellow and my red ally.

The MULTIPLAYER Settings are:
-----------------------------------------------
-You must pick "Reveal Map - Explored".
-Don't choose for the "Lock Teams" to be "On" because Vespasian starts allied with everyone.
-Do not use any Teams. Leave the teams all as "-" because there is a network of alliances and using Teams overrides it.

The Player Civs are:
Judean Provisional Government under Joseph Ben Gurion (P1): Byzantines
Vespasian (P2): Italians
Roman Egypt (P3): Italians
Peasantry Class/Simon Bar Giora (P4): Turks
The Zealots (P5): Persians
Florus/ Roman Province of Judea (P6 Purple): Italians
Sicarii (P7): Saracens

AWARE WOLF, I gave your scenario a "thumbs up" because I like the theme and there are alot of nice things about the scenario, like conquering cities when you build or convert an outpost. I beat it on Standard as Player 1 after a few days. So I want to give you a thorough review to point out potential problems, as well as to help players who need it. Due to space limits, I must break my review into multiple messages in 2 pages of comments (click on the "2" or right arrow at the bottom of the page to see my second page.

SETTINGS
---------------
You gave a good explanation of how to use the Dataset Mod: you subscribe to it and then choose it in the Standard Game menu and choose a Random Map, and then you go back and start the Scenario from that same Standard Game menu.

You must pick "Reveal Map - Explored", and you don't choose for the "Lock Teams" to be "On" because Vespasian starts allied with everyone.

Right now the Victory Trigger does not work for Player 1, so anyone playing as Player 1 must beat all the other Players to win (in effect, a 1 v. 6 match). This is too unbalanced for a decent Multiplayer Match, because Vespasian begins allied with all Players. Ideally, the Scenario Designer (Aware Wolf) would correct the triggers so that Players 1 and 4, or Players 1, 2, and 4 could win together as intended.

STORY
-----------
This Scenario should have more story to explain the teams. P1 is the Judean Provisional government. There was a historical period in the revolt where the Zealots claimed that the original rebel leaders in Jerusalem like Joseph Ben Gurion wanted to reconcile with Rome, and the Zealots in Jerusalem turned on the Provisional government. The Purple "Roman Province" is the local Roman rulership under Florus.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:25pm
Player 1's leader heros are Eleazar ben Hananiah, by the Temple, and Joseph ben Gurion, fighting in the north. According to Wikipedia, Eleazar ben Hananiah and Joseph ben Gurion (grandson of Nicodemus in John's Gospel) were two leaders of the first Jewish Provisional Government that revolted from Rome. Their Provisional government also included the famous Jewish historian Josephus, and their government gave him the territory of Galilee to govern, where the Romans defeated him.

P2 is Vespasian, the Roman general. He begins allied with everyone. It is weird that one of his potential victory conditions is for Florus to die, since Vespasian and Florus were both on the Roman side and Vespasian did not try to kill Florus. It is also weird for him to be Allied with everyone because I think that he would not be allied with the Zealots or Sicari. The designer added in a trigger so that when Florus is defeated, the Jewish Players declare war on Rome, which I suppose means Vespasian.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:25pm
P4 is the Peasantry Class. They have a side mission to control the Temple Mount and 8 relics and the Temple Mount, but this implies that they would need to fight the Judean Provisional Government. P4 gets an option for victory where P4 is allied with Blue and Red (the Provisional Government and Vespasian) to defeat Florus, the Zealots and the Sicarii. Their leaders in the Scenario are Jacob Ben Sosa and Shimon Bar Giora. Simon Bar Giora was actually a rebel leader who opposed the Judean Provisional government and was defeated by Vespasian, so it does not make much sense for him to be allied with Vespasian. Jacob Bar Sosa was an Idumean leader who was closely linked to Simon Bar Giora. Simon invited him to fight the Provisional government, and then Jacob bar Sosa wanted to surrender to Rome, so Simon imprisoned him. So on the other hand, it makes sense that Jacob bar Sosa's Player could have a mutual victory together with Rome.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:24pm
P6 is the Roman Province of Judea. The Roman procurator Gessius Florus is its king unit. The implication is that Player 6 is the Roman rulership of Judea. It begins allied with everyone except for the Blue Player. It says that P6 gets a team victory with Red and Yellow if "all 4 Jewish Players" died. The 4 Jewish Players must be The Blue Player, the yellow peasants, the Zealots, and the Sicarii.

To match history, you would want all the Roman Players (Red, Purple, and Orange) to be allied with each other, and you would want the Zealots and Sicarii (Teal and Grey) to be the opposing team. The "Provisional government" and the Yellow Peasantry Player could be allied with either of those two sides or it could even be neutral. Their alliances seem more flexible. The Designer tried to address this by having the Yellow Player declare war on Blue or Red (Vespasian), depending on whether Grey or Purple (Florus) were defeated.

INSTRUCTIONS
-------------------
The Hints section talks about "the Jewish Player" paying taxes to Rome. This phrase, "the Jewish Player", actually refers to the Blue, Yellow, Aqua/Teal, and Grey Players, who all represent Jewish factions.

The Hints say that different towns pay taxes regularly. A Player is supposed to own or capture a town by converting or rebuilding an Outpost in the small area surrounded by torches in each town. The same is meant for the castles like Ashkelon with town names? You don't have to kill everything in the town to "conquer" it, you just need to own an outpost in the torch areas. You need to own an outpost in the town's torch area in order for that town's monastery to switch to you.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:24pm
The instructions say that one way for Player 1 to win involves Red taking Caesarea (Purple's castle). The capture feature doesn't seem to work when it comes to the cities with castles, though. When I destroyed rebuilt the castles in Hebron, Ashkelon, and Shechem, I don't remember it declaring me the owner of those cities. And the monasteries in those cities did not switch to my ownership when I made the castles in the torched castle areas. Further, the game only allowed me to build a maximum of 3 castles, so I couldn't rebuild a destroyed castle in every conquered city that had one. One option would be to convert castles, but that would be incredibly hard due to how strongly they would shoot even a pack of priests.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:20pm
When it says that you get resources for destroying "Roman Storage" buildings, it means the Trade Workshops.

You don't must not need to capture the relics to win, because it is just called a "side mission". The problem with it being a requirement to win is that you might need to fight all the players if they all have a relic. At that point, the issue of having to get their relics becomes rather moot. In my case, the game gave me a victory after I defeated all the other Players, even though I didn't have all the relics. The only difference that the relic bonus could make is if you defeated all Players who had relics and the remaining players had none. But it's actually more tedious to hunt down every relic than to defeat all the enemies. This is because there are lots of cities where the relics could be, and the cities are guarded by towers that stay active even when their Players resign.

GLITCHES
-------------
The stable in Jerusalem has an open space south of it that is surrounded by other buildings so that the horses that you train there are automatically stuck. To deal with this as the player, you need to post a gathering point flag for that stable in an open area.

In my Playthrough, all AI Players except for Yellow declared war on me 2 minutes into the game. Next, Vespasian and Roman Egypt immediately said that they will rejoin my side if I send them 500 of each resource. I sent Vespasian 500 of each research and he immediately allied with me. But then he immediately declared war again and demanded 500 of each resource again! I take it that this means that the Tribute system doesn't work to make the other players my allies even though the AI Players demand tribute.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:18pm
The Designer's Victory Trigger for Player 1 does not work. In the Editor, the Victory Trigger for Blue has several conditions: Players 5-7 must be defeated, and ALSO Purple Player 6 needs a unit of Type "None" in Red's northern Town Center. Player 6 has a tent there hidden by the Red Town Center, but this Condition is pointless because P1 must defeat Purple anyway. And the more Pointless "Conditions" there are for a trigger, the more likely it is a trigger won't work. I defeated Teal, Purple, and Grey, and to look for the problem when the game didn't end, I used the Torpedo2 and Marco Polo cheats and saw that the Purple Tent was still there. This could mean that even the pointless Purple Tent Condition was met, and yet there was no Victory.

If you run a test of the Scenario, you can easily see that the Victory Trigger does not work, because if you use the Torpedo cheat you can eliminate Players 5-7 and see that the Scenario does not end at that point with a victory for Player 1.

WALKTHROUGH/ADVICE FOR PLAYER 1
-----------
If you are Player 1, Hit pause right away at the start and set your priests in the opening battle to convert the strongest units, a legion and the Centurion. Put some of your army to the left side of Jamnia, because Orange and Grey enemies, especially priests, will attack there. You should have priests and warships in Jaffa for when the purple and red fleet shows up. Heroes can't be converted, so you can use your heroes to attack enemy priests. There is not much point in making a trade cart because your allies switch sides against you early on, although after you defeat Aqua you can make one to trade with Yellow.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:11pm
After the opening battle, move the remains of Joseph Ben Gurion's army to Jamnia for defense except maybe for archers and slingers to attack the Aqua priests who come northeast of Jerusalem. Also send your small army's two priests after the opening battle to Jaffa for when the galleons attack. The Designer writes: "this ai deafult to declare war on players:." So there is no point in building a trade cart or trade ship

In Jerusalem, there is a Purple tower, so get your priest out right away or garrison it and Eleazar and a villager in your TC and have the towers and TC and castle attack the Purple tower. Send your villagers to gather food instead of mining at the start because you need to age up fast. In Jaffa, have your farming villagers gather fish and berries. If you defeat Aqua and Grey (Sicarii) before Purple, then your Yellow ally declares war on you. It makes sense then to defend Jamnia in the south from Grey while you first attack Purple and Aqua in the Northeast.

MY PLAYTHROUGHS
--------------
On HARD, 2 minutes in, everyone but Yellow declared war on me. The Aqua team to the upper right of Jerusalem sent priests who started attacking my army guarding the north of the city. I should have countered with my army's priests, but I had just used their power to convert a aqua villager building a second aqua TC there. Meanwhile, Vespasian's fleet started attacking Jaffa. Next, a fleet of about 12 Purple and Red ships started attacking me. Apparently they were allied even though the instructions talk about winning together with Red if Red takes out Caesarea. Next, siege rams show up at Jaffa while more attacks happen in Jamnia. It became overwhelming. This was only like 10-20 minutes into the Scenario and I was getting attacked by Red, Grey, Orange, and Purple. Aqua did a few attacks with priests, but it was not major. I had tons of gold but little wood to make ship to fight back, and it had taken alot of work for me to even get on the Castle Age.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:06pm
On MEDIUM, I got about 19 minutes in and the large attack from the upper right onto Jerusalem from the Purple, Aqua, and Red team was too much, especially when combined with the major attacks from the left direction by Orange and Grey onto Jamnia. Basically, I was able to barely repel the attacks onto Jamnia but didn't have enough to repel the attacks onto Jerusalem.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:06pm
On STANDARD, Aqua surrendered, partly because Yellow helped me attack them. Next, I conquered Grey's Hebron TC with Rams. Grey surrendered and their castle auto-destroyed. Soon afterwards, Yellow declared war on me. They had like 20 strong soldiers to the upper right of my main base coming to attack me, and their forces in general were expansive. So I reloaded using another savegame, and it turns out that if you defeat Aqua and Purple (Roman Florus) instead of Grey (Sicarii), then a message says that the Jewish Players are rebelling against Rome, which means that Yellow doesn't attack you. I saw Yellow taking one of the relics, so if I have to get all 8 relics, it means I must fight my ally Yellow. I reloaded and fought Purple until they surrendered, which was actually before I took out their main Town Center. I guess that I fought them enough that they gave up. In an earlier playthrough, I saw Yellow fighting Purple, but this time it didn't look like they were fighting Purple.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 9:05pm
Next on STANDARD, I built a Castle at Shechem, but it didn't give me control over Shechem's synagogue. Finally, I defeated Grey... but instead of me getting the joint victory with Yellow like the instructions imply that I would, Yellow declared war on me. Next, I built a castle in Hebron in the torched area, and it got renamed "Hebron", but Hebron's monastery just became a "Gaia" synagogue/monastery. Next, I defeated Orange (Roman Egypt). I tried to build a Castle in Caesarea to replace the one that disappeared there when Purple surrendered, but the game doesn't let me build more than three castles, so there was no way for me to capture Caesarea for the tax trigger. Next, I conquered Vespasian. Finally, Yellow surrendered to me and I won.
rakovsky Oct 17, 2020 @ 11:57am
Aware Wolf,
When I look in the Scenario Editor, the trigger says that the ownership of the Hebron monastery changes if I own the castle. This suggests that I need to either convert the castle or to destroy it and build a new one there. If I just destroy the castle, then it seems that the castle space just becomes empty and the computer will not know who to give the monastery or taxes to. For example, I used rams to destroy the Grey Town Center and then their Castle disappeared. However this did not make their monastery switch to my Player. The way to do that must be to build a castle where the vanished monastery went.

u need to destroy castle/tower inside the tourches and than u can gain city's taxes
rakovsky Oct 16, 2020 @ 10:12pm
Aware Wolf, can you tell me how to capture a city that has a castle or outpost?
Do I have to destroy the castle or will I get the city automatically as soon as I destroy all the buildings except for the castle?
rakovsky Oct 16, 2020 @ 11:59am
Historically, Florus (P6) was exploiting the Jews, like with taxes. So the Judean Provisional Government (P1) under Joseph Ben Gurion (grandson of Nicodemus in John's Gospel) rebelled and defeated Florus (P6).

Then, Vespasian (P2) captured Governor Josephus (who belonged to P1) in Galilee. The Zealots (P5), Sicarii (P7), and Simon Bar Giora (P4) conquered the Provisional Government (P1), accusing them (P1) of wanting to surrender. Josephus switched sides to support surrender to Rome. He said that Vespasian was destined to conquer Judea and become the next Roman empire. Josephus pointed to Biblical prophecies about Jerusalem being conquered and said that the Zealots should surrender. Then Vespasian (P2) conquered the Zealots, Sicarii, and Simon Bar Giora.

this ai deafult to declare war on players
rakovsky Oct 16, 2020 @ 11:05am
The AI was fine in terms of its fighting ability, but when I play as Player 1, I don't understand why 2 minutes into the scenario, all AIs declare war on me except for the Yellow Player.
DeRoman_10  [author] Oct 16, 2020 @ 8:35am
u are right, and i gonna add that u can do it also as single war or multiplayer (reccomend multiplayer as ai is dumb) some of the quests are team win and some solo win
rakovsky Oct 16, 2020 @ 6:25am
Thanks for explaining, Aware Wolf. I will translate into Hebrew here to help:

I like your campaign. It is interesting for me because I read all writings by the Jewish Nazarene Christian historian Josephus. I guess that this is a Single Player campaign where you can choose which Player you will be, because the instructions explain the Victory Conditions for each Player. Am I right?

DeRoman_10  [author] Oct 15, 2020 @ 6:29pm
the scenario start date is in 66 (after sucking of jerusalem) from this point p1 inside the war
rakovsky Oct 15, 2020 @ 6:09pm
I take it that this is a one-person vs AI map where you can pick which side you want to be. The Designer didn't say whether it's a Multiplayer Scenario though. AOK Heaven's Blacksmith database has separate lists for single player and multiplayer scenarios, which is helpful there.

Historically I suppose that P2 and P3 would be allied, and that P5 and P6 would be allied.

P1 could be seen as part of the revolt or else neutral, because it seems like there were different governing factions at different times. It seems that there was a provisional government in Jerusalem that wanted to be neutral or avoid the Romans invading the city, and the Zealot faction turned on them.
