The solution is not very difficult. The difficulty is that there is too much useless white to interfere with your thinking. I finally saw the video, but this is definitely a good puzzle.

Great puzzle! I liked the funnel preservation after fling by sliding off into a wall portal.

what an evil room!

I realized I never commented despite favoriting the map. It's a very good puzzle. Took a while to figure out. I think I had to play the simple edition to put me on track but I can't remember for sure.

My public hint. Plan your trip wisely.

Finally. Great map. The rag I built based on your simple edition is really not worhty of mentioning this map as I played the Simple edition first. As usual I learned a new mechanic I had never thought of playing one of your maps. Thumbs up and favorited.

Good map but I liked "simple version" more. My walkthrough https://youtu.be/S0_3oT7pGLU

Third attempt this morning without that "particular type of misuse of a funnel" :)
bullfrog Oct 10, 2017 @ 10:28am
Fair enough :( I'll try again
toncica  [author] Oct 10, 2017 @ 2:44am
@bullfrog, I consider that using a glitch, therefore it's not ok. Can't be done much about it here, but there is another map in which I have deployed a turret to punish this particular type of misuse of a funnel. ;)
bullfrog Oct 10, 2017 @ 1:30am
Great puzzle; finally managed it after trying off and on over the last few weeks! Out of interest, I managed to give myself more time in the funnel by moving side to side, which helped me as I was always too slow getting out of the funnel and back into the entrance area : perhaps it’s not part of the intended method, but is that ok?
toncica  [author] Sep 29, 2017 @ 6:29pm
Coincidentally this map is aimed at casual players with 3k hours in Portal2. So it worked out perfectly. Cheers!
SunnyOst Sep 29, 2017 @ 5:04pm
The last attempt took me only about 20 minutes, and previous tries didn't get me nowhere near solving it. So it wasn't even that hard tbh :3
toncica  [author] Sep 29, 2017 @ 1:21pm
That is ridiculous! :D
SunnyOst Sep 29, 2017 @ 1:11pm
Wooo, 3k hours in Portal2 and, finally, I was ready to finish this. Great map. Took me a couple of years on and off :D

FFS! Those were simpler times. I didn't think of giving fizzlers a delay back then.

Ha, well that's one way to build a map :P I was a little bored after playing a few medium tests the other day, they weren't bad but I solved them so quickly. Didn't have the gall to do one of your more timesinking maps. This felt like the in-between I needed. Awesome map!
toncica  [author] Feb 4, 2017 @ 3:44am
The only inspiration back in the day was this random map I played, in which it was unclear what the intended solution was. I looked at the layout and thought about what would be the most unlikely intended solution. ;)
Mr Vapour Waterhandle Feb 3, 2017 @ 2:28pm
Was this inspired by my map Origami back in the day? There's some of that distance game. It's funny how I figured out the solution but kept fucking up the order knowing full well what it was but forgetting steps like putting the cube close enough to the button (on your convenient different texture). Obviously takes more thinking and steps than my map did. Quite a good puzzle but a little annoying to perform to be honest, portalling out while moving in that tractor beam is a little more annoying than it seems when thinking it up. Nothing impossible though. Also a little sneaky in that the 3 drop from the entrance didn't seem like enough to get in the beam, thankfully I couldn't figure anything else out and just gave it a shot. Anyway, good map!
DeathWish808 Jan 10, 2016 @ 6:44am
Great map. Clever as always, but I liked the difficulty level on this one. It wasn't such a tough one as the others where you have to think 50 steps ahead. lol

Simple puzzle yet it can make some headaches (mainly due to the white theme, because it puts the player in search for a variety of possible moves); great work , I played the simpler version a couple of minutes before this one and it's a good introduction to this map.

I think I'm going to need a video of that ninja solution.

For, um... science.
chira May 8, 2015 @ 7:54pm
Without the camera: make sure you place your portal in the exit room on the ceiling, throw the cube up the ledge, put a portal next to the ledge while you are in the pit, and then you have 2 choices. go through, and while falling, put a portal on the floor, and you will be flung up high enough to make it up. Or, while falling through, at the last second, shoot a portal up at a place where you can go through the portal in the exit room to make it up the ledge. Either way, continue from "put a portal horizontally in line with the pit," so removing the camera will not matter. There are 3 solutions for that bit.
toncica  [author] Apr 15, 2015 @ 6:24pm
Omg, must remove camera to prevent this obvious ninja solution. Thanks for telling. :)
chira Apr 14, 2015 @ 12:08am
I discovered a ninja solution to this puzzle. Enter, take out the camera, get it to the main area, get the cube on the button above the pit, shoot a portal in the exit room, when the cube falls down, put it in the corner of the pit, put the camera on top of it, get on top of the camera, jump up with the cube(it works!), put a portal horizontally in line with the pit, in profile with the exit door button, put the cube next to it(slightly in it, but not falling in), jump through, and at the last second, put the portal that was in the exit room on the tractor beam. If you have done this correctly, the cube will be rising in profile with the exit button, and you can put a portal in the right place to make it move towards the button. Congratualations. You have pulled off a ridiculously complex ninja solution.

Also, I'll just leave this here . Don't ask me how this happened because I have no idea.
toncica  [author] Nov 29, 2014 @ 5:52pm
The "overgrown style" was added because of josepezdj's Hammer remix, I thought it would fit well. In a complex chamber I wouldn't use it because it would be distracting, here there are very few elements to pay attention to though. I'm aware that it can take a while to solve, if this doesn't work well I could go back to default Portal 2 style.
Thanks for the feedback.
Ganymede Nov 29, 2014 @ 5:23pm
Good job with the aesthetics! I think it could have used a bit more color (foliage, stuff seen through windows, etc) but the ambient effects added a lot. The PeTI editor doesn't give many choices as to the color pallete of a test chamber, but Hammer gives you free reign to "paint" your chamber into any color you want. I realize it's supposed to be a "white" chamber, but it can still be hard on the eyes, especially for a chamber that can potentially take a long time to solve.
Ganymede Nov 29, 2014 @ 5:23pm
Well, I was trying something that, ultimately, would have never worked, but would have been cool if it was possible: I was trying to use the 2-drop from the exit together with the 1-drop below the exit to add up to a 3-fling up into the tractor beam. Didn't quite consider using the 3-drop near the entrance instead.

There's a fair bit of timing involved in this puzzle! More than I expected.
Also, I noticed that, due to the sheer white-ness of this chamber, it was a bit difficult to see whether the fizzlers were down at a distance. I ended up spamming portals at them rather than trying to decipher upon inspection.

After playing josepezdj's remix, the solution here came quite fast, but that's a clever puzzle and I prefer the "simple-white" version ;) (even if it was a bit weird after the impressive aesthetical work in remix)

At last ! This test took me a while to solve :)
TheGlecter Apr 24, 2014 @ 4:27pm
After some months I decided to give this one a second chance. It still took me a while but I eventually solved it exactly as it's shown in josepezdj's video!

I must say I was slightly disappointed, though. I've always had a hunch that the cube button had to be activated while I was up inside the funnel... but I've been lost for ages on what to do next... Turns out it all comes down to finding a portalable wall above the exit door to do a cheap funnel trick with... >:(

I really didn't expect the level to involve any kind of funnel trick like that, so the cube dropper not being aligned to the exit door's button was totally misleading to me. I'd have favourited the map otherwise because the first part was very clever...

OK, time to play josepezdj's version! :)
toncica  [author] Mar 16, 2014 @ 6:54am
Hey KptnJ, sorry for the late reply. As you suspect you've done the first part not as it was intended but it sounds like I can tolerate that alternative solution. If you scroll down a few comments you can see the intended solution in the video by josepezdj.

Btw, you don't need additional video software when you want to record a playthrough. Portal2 can record a demo file with the console command "record" and everybody can playback that playthrough when you share the demo file.
MetaMagi Mar 9, 2014 @ 5:52pm
Is this anything like the proper solution?
MetaMagi Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:50am
From here on, I imagine this should resemble the intended solution. As you are at the starting point, shoot portal where it's required to open the fizzler, leave the cube in front of it, and go through the portal. Now, shoot portal at the end of the funnel, and stay on the edge so you won't actually go through the funnel. The cube will be funneled towards the fizzler, now cube will fall, and that cube ends up pressing the butten. Shoot a portal to the goal area, and another portal just below the cube. Cube is now in goal area.

Now, shoot the non-goal portal to the end of funnel, and go through. Cube will go through fizzler, so shoot a portal above the final door to grab the new cube, and direct that last cube to the X button on the wall.
MetaMagi Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:45am
You can now wiggle the not-pit-portal to the box on the button, and grab it as you fall down. Then toss the cube on the floor in the pit, and start wiggling your way towards the funnel. The height you have is enough to get to the funnel at the end of your wiggling road.

Now, shoot portal on the wall right next to the funnel, and go through. Place cube on the floor in a corner, shoot portal on the wall above it, and jump on that portal. Because you can stand on portals, you have just enough height that you can jump from that portal to the starting area, and thus get out of the pit. Take the cube with you as you do this.
MetaMagi Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:42am
The most recommended free software either cost ridiculous amounts, don't work, or are obviously full of viruses. I don't think there's a way for me to show it in video. However, the basic gist of it is this:

First, get to the box. Put it on the button on the ground. Shoot portal to the roof, and in the pit near starting area. Jump through the pit portal, and shoot roof portal into the ground below. You are now bouncing between 2 portals, one of which is in the pit
MetaMagi Feb 27, 2014 @ 7:03am
Do you have any suggested programs for making such videos? The I found GameCam, which my antivirus wouldn't let me install, and fraps, which costs $40.
toncica  [author] Feb 25, 2014 @ 11:30pm
I can't picture what you did, it certainly doesn't sound intended. If you provide a demo or a video I could check if it needs fixing.
MetaMagi Feb 25, 2014 @ 9:59am
I am really, really unsure if I solved this the right way. I'm almost certain it was not the intended solution, in fact, but I simply could not think of any other way to do it. I'll describe the solution:

I basically wiggled myself up from the pit using cube and a portal

Great map, I loved it. It's now part of my favorites along with great cubini and cognitive dissonance.
ken.roberts Oct 23, 2013 @ 2:57pm
You are correct - I did not complete without demo. I used to stubbornly refuse to do that even if it meant months to solve. But lately - there are so many goo maps and so little time - that I figger it was better to look at demo since I had already tried for a week. Will do as you suggest and try josepezdj's map. Thanks
josepezdj Oct 15, 2013 @ 10:09pm
It is small, but it's far from being simple ;)
