Reminds me of one of my old tests "Blue gel"

Guess who made BEEMOD? BenVlodgi, a hardcore Hammer user. BEEMOD was never designed to remove the need to use Hammer but rather to enhance the in-game editor. It's OK to like both tools; Hammer and the in-game editor. They are not mutually exclusive.
If I didn't use BEEMOD, what's to stop you from placing a portal on the far end and the other portal on your end of the "portal runway"? With that setup, you can just fling yourself over to the other side without the blue gel. BEEMOD has the autoportal entity to restrict portal placement which works in this case to prevent what I said could happen.
If you get a chance, check out my level. It's four advanced tests in momentum and portals: Diabolical Tests 6: Momentum
