Unless you were in the middle of the stealing event chain, this update should be savegame compatible.
Note on Joyeuse: Currently I can't easily make characters with the Carolingian bloodline able to use it. The triggers are broken and I can't actually check if a character has a specific bloodline at all.

New Features:
  • Updated to Vanilla Version 3.2.1
  • Updated to HIP Golden2
    • Note that blacksmith created crowns will still be created for characters below king tier and can be equipped by them.
  • "New" and improved stealing chain. The whole chain has been rebalanced and optimized. This update mostly adds in the framework for more additional flavor events to make it less repetitive. The actual new stuff will be added in a couple of days. I didn't add them in now because it would break save games.
  • A game rule for which AI characters are allowed to steal or to turn it off entirely
  • A game rule for disabling the artifact vault buildings if you wish

Changes and Balancing
  • The artifact stealing chain has been heavily rebalanced and made more consistent. Please provide feedback
  • Vanilla wonders that have upgrades that "protect your artifacts" now apply to the difficulty of the event chain
  • Final tier of Artifact Vaults now require Fortifications 5 instead of 7
  • Reduced all effects of Artifact Vaults and made the AI smarter about building them
  • Artifact vaults will now only be active when the holding is that character's capital
  • Hellenic artifacts can now be used by Non-Hellenic Romans.(this does not affect Greek only artifacts)
  • The Treasury Guard minor title is now only available to Dukes and higher
  • "Jaguar Spear" has been renamed to "Ritual Hunting Spear"
  • Crown of Thorns: now usable by the Emperor of Outremer. Can also be worn if you have no vice traits.
  • Fingerbone of Saint: reduced monthly prestige to 0.1 (vanilla change)
  • Wonder Artifacts rebalanced:
    • All "Lost" books now require 10 learning instead of 6 to use, quality increased to 4
    • Lost Poetry Masterpiece: replaced 3 learning bonus with 2 diplomacy bonus, reduced monthly piety to 0.2
    • Lost Play: removed stewardship bonus, reduced intrigue bonus to 2, added 5% plot defense
    • Lost Book of Medicine: removed monthly prestige bonus
    • Lost Philosophy Book: unchanged
    • Lost Architecture Book: removed monthly prestige, reduced tech growth to 5%, increased build time reduction to 20%
    • Book on ancient History: reduced all attribute bonuses to 1
    • Lost Astronomy Book: reduced learning to 1
    • Clever Forgery: unchanged
    • Zweihander Swords: increased quality from 2 to 4(how is this supposed to be quality 2 with all these OP modifiers?), reduced tribal opinion to 5, removed light infantry bonus, increased combat skill requirement to 30
    • Cathedral Bells: added 2 same religion opinion

Bugfixes and Optimization
  • Fixed Girdle of Aphrodite's decision not showing up for non-Hellenic Greeks and requiring the artifact to be equipped
  • Jian Sword should now have a Light Infantry bonus of 7.5% instead of 75%
  • Added missing horse random world artifacts from vanilla
  • Fixed "Lost Architecture Book" using province modifiers instead of character ones (vanilla bug)
  • Fixed bugs with the Artifact Vault buildings
  • Fixed Tengri's Favor being usable by any adult
  • Fixed Iron Crown of Lombardy failing to transfer to the King of Italy
  • Joyeuse will no longer get stuck on an unlanded character (only works for new games sorry)
  • Fixed some decision tooltips
  • Fixed AI unable to target some artifacts
  • Fixed the steal artifact decision not showing when you can attempt to try again

V1.7.1
This is mostly a heavy reorganization of the files and events with various small optimizations. Next update will rework the entire stealing mechanic.

New Features:
  • HIP Compatibility: This mod should now work with the HIP mod. It works, but some more tweaks might have to be made due to the new cultures HIP adds.
  • Girdle of Aphrodite/Venus: spawns on a female character

Changes and Balancing
  • Trident of Poseidon/Neptune: now has an event based effect, reduced stewardship to 1, removed global revolt risk bonus
  • All Artifacts that are specifically tied to a title or dynasty will now always be locked to that title or dynasty's head. These have been also made unstealable.
  • Removed obsolete hidden Durandal trait

Bugfixes and Optimization
  • AI hellenic non-greeks can now also steal hellenic aritfacts
  • Optimized Andvaranaut bi-yearly wealth event
  • Squished various inheritance events into 1

There were origanally more things planned for this but they would have broken your saves. Instead more Hellenic artifacts and other features will be released in a later update on March 25th. This may or may not include HIP compatibility. The March 20th update will break your save games.

  • All Holy Weapon combat events have been removed (except Gungnir and Brionac) as Vanilla now has duels. They will return in a different form in the future
  • Any decisions with a cooldown now show when that cooldown ends
  • All artifact effect text has been moved to actual modifiers, weird text workarounds are no longer neccessary
  • Durandal will no longer make the user have +30 opinion towards his/her liege or force them to leave factions
  • Barons can no longer build Artifact Vaults

Bugfixes
  • Fixed bows not giving archer bonus
  • Fixed Vanilla bug: random world swords couldn't be used in duels
  • Chinese Ji should give 7.5% Heavy infantry instead of 75%
  • Fixed some modded weapons not showing up for Vanilla duels
  • Tier 2 crafted swords should give 7 combat rating instead of 1
  • Fixed some books not using new library slot
  • The Kingdom of Carinthia and the duchies of Brandenburg, Meissen, and Lausitz will now become dejure when using Joyeuse's decision

    • Curtana: Normans can no longer use it. Added King of England or Emperor of Brittania to allowed characters.
    • Replaced "Head" slot with vanilla "Masks" slot
    • Monks and Mystics is no longer required for these to show up (I have no idea why I had them restricted tbh)
  4. You can now take back a previously owned or dynasty owned artifact from a prisoner. No longer uses wonky opinion modifiers to function, so will work properly now.

Bugfixes
  • Blocked live creatures from being taken forcefully
  • Siezing artifacts will properly release the victim from prison
  • The initial character that spawns with the Axe of Perun can now use it

##New Features

I have finally found a decent way to list any special effects an artifact possesses. When hovering over an artifact you will see the following color coded in the description:

  1. Green: any effects that happen via events or decisions.
  2. Blue: any special inheritance rules, and if the artifact is considered a "holy weapon"
  3. Red: anything related to artifacts blocked from stealing or getting destroyed on inheritance

Artifacts:
  • Pandora's Box(H/M): spawns on a Greek character, can be opened for various random effects.
  • Achilles's Shield:spawns on a Greek character
  • Pelt of the Numean Lion(H/M):spawns on a Greek character, priority given to strong/brawny characters
  • Alberich's Ring(H/M): spawns on a Central Germanic character near the Rhine river
  • Nagelring: spawns on the holder of the County of Bern if German or Central Germanic culture group
  • Brionac: spawns on an Celtic character, with Irish having a higher priority
  • Curtana: spawns on the king of England, will spawn on an independent Anglo-Saxon in England for earlier starts.
  • Durandal: spawns on Roland in the 769 start, otherwise on a landed Breton or French/Frankish character.
  • Joyeuse: spawns on Charlemagne in the 769 start, a Karling King in 867, or someone that can use it in later dates.
  • Joyeuse(Ceromonial): obtained via Joyeuse's decision


##Changes
  • Reworked Game rule to "Supernatural Artifacts and Events" with the following values:
    1. All: everything is available
    2. Historical/Mythological: only supernatural artifacts with a historical or mythological basis are available
    3. Off: all supernatural artifacts and their related events will not appear
  • Holy weapons will now activate for all eligible commanders and vassals during wars against other religions.
  • Multiple meteorites can now appear, as soon as Skai Unav is forged they will stop.
  • Vanilla rumors event has been heavily modified. In general chance to trigger is dependant on how many artifacts you own, with having many artifacts reducing the chance. Religious artifacts found are now tracked game-wide and only a certain amount of each can exist at the same time.

##Balancing
  • Slightly reduced chance of Odin saving sons
  • AI now requires at least 200 prestige to attempt to steal artifacts
  • Sons with a poor education or poor stats cannot be sent to the Knights of Zun
  • Reduced learning requirment for forging the meteorite into Skai Unav, added prestige and money requirments
  • Reduced chance of a meteorite appearing for tengri characters

Artifacts:
  • Books: Maximum equipped reduced from 5 to 4
  • All Armor: changed from morale defence to defence
  • Iron Crown of Lombardy: can no longer be gifted
  • Holy Prepuce: reduced spawn amount from 4 to 3
  • Veil of Veronica: reverted -3% global revolt risk to vanilla -1%
  • Seal of Solomon: spawn chance from 0% to 100%
  • Maccabean Shield: changed morale defence from 10% to defence 15%. removed event spawn, added to vanilla rumors
  • Himyarite Mask: will now spawn on the King of Yemen if he exists, otherwise a duke in Yemen.
  • Brass Snake: reduced monthly piety penalty from 0.25 to 0.20. reduced spawn amount from 3 to 2, added to vanilla rumors
  • Seal of Mohammad: spawn chance from 30% to 100%
  • Holy Banner of Mohammad: spawn chance from 50% to 30%
  • Blessed Mantle: spawn chance from 20% to 100%
  • Hair from the Beard of Mohammad : reduced spawn amount from 5 to 4
  • Water of the Blessed Mantle:: reduced spawn amount from 4 to 3
  • Haoma Sapling: removed opinion bonus
  • Scepter of the Sun: removed learning bonus
  • Andvaranaut: upped base curse chance, increased chance for old characters
  • Jarngreipr: changed morale defence to defence
  • Kalevanmiekka: increased monthly prestige to 1, increased quality to 4
  • Axe of Perun: can no longer be gifted
  • Svarog's Hammer: removed siege offence and defence (these do not work), reduced stewardship to 2, increased build cost and time bonuses to 15%, added 30% siege speed command modifier
  • Kladenets: reduced combat rating to 3, removed morale defence bonus
  • Sampo: reverted +10 same religion opinion to vanilla +5, reverted +3 stewardship to vanilla +2
  • Branch of the World Tree: removed diplomacy bonus, reduced learned to 2, increased retinue maintenance cost reduction to 15%
  • Laima's Scales: removed from startup spawn, added to vanilla rumors
  • Skai Unav: reduced martial to 2, reduced combat rating to 3, removed morale defence, reduced morale offence to 5%. added to holy weapon events, can now be stolen, changed quality to 5
  • Alpamysh's Chains: reduced intrigue to 1, added 10% arrest chance. removed from startup spawn, added to vanilla rumors
  • Generic Artifacts: reverted spawn amount from 75 to vanilla 50


#Bugfixes and performance
  • Replaced 5 year performance heavy maintenance event with an event that runs on starting the game for the first time.
  • AI should check less frequently if they can steal or not.
  • When an AI decides to steal they are now guarenteed to pick a correct artifact to steal on the first try. (previously they would keep trying until they pick one they could use, which lagged a bit)
  • Fixed mislinked image for Svarog's Hammer
  • Fixed some typos and grammar mistakes
  • Cleaned up some ambiguous tooltips
  • Odins Eye will no longer attempt to reveal a plot when there are none to reveal
  • Ashrune can no longer be found multiple times
  • Seizing Artifacts from prisoners will now release them
  • Fixed Iron Crown of Lombardy getting stuck on Pope
  • Fixed Vanilla bug: Bon characters should no longer get epic artifact rumor events, there are no epic artifacts they can find
  • Fixed Vanilla bug: Characters will no longer get stuck in an endless search for artifacts if the rumor upgraded and they already have all upgraded quality artifacts.
  • Fixed children able to equip the following artifacts: Velnias's Bow, Axe Pendant, Aram, Skai Unav, and Tengri's Favor
  • Fixed wrong character getting the dishonorable opinion when an AI fails to steal an artifact
  • Fixed tengri artifacts only spawning on courtiers
