Description
This mod adds two types of throwable utility items: Flares and Glow Sticks. Both items can be used to illuminate the dark areas.

The Flare works like a cheaper, inferior version of the Battle Scanner. It can detect/reveal enemies, however it has a shorter range and a smaller radius. As a tradeoff, it provides bright light in dark areas. The light expires after three turns as a default setting. Keep in mind that enemies will be alerted by thrown flares.

The Glow Sticks have even smaller radius and throwing range, and they do not emit much light. However, they are great tools for marking the enemy position. Any unit caught in the radius will be holotargeted for one turn. By default, the glow sticks will emit light for the entire mission.

The flares come in five cosmetic variants: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow and White.
The glow sticks come in three cosmetic variants: Red, Blue and Green.

Each cosmetic variant is unlocked after performing the autopsy of one of the base-game aliens.
You should be able to unlock all items as you gradually progress through the game.
Unlocked items can be purchased in Engineering.

By default, all the colored variants have the same stats, but most item/ability stats for the variants are configurable through the XComFlares.ini and XComChemlights.ini config files.

COMPATIBILITY:
X2WOTCCommunityHighlander is required.

Should be compatible with anything.
Compatible with Covert Infiltration and LWOTC out of the box. Bridge config is already included.
Can be added during the campaign.
No MCOs (Mod Class Overrides) are used.

KNOWN ISSUES:
The flare might rarely not produce much light if thrown in an unfortunate spot. Reload should fix the issue.

Feel free to report any feedback/issues.

COMPANION MODS:
I highly recommend using this mod with lighting map packs for better atmosphere:
Aquilio's Weather Pack
DLC Lighting Maps
Tunnel & Abandoned Lighting Maps
Darker Nights by ∑3245

as well as Full Shadow Report, which allows to preview the time of day in the Squad Loadout screen for the upcoming mission.

Also, Visible Utility Items will display multiple flares/glow sticks on the soldier, like in the preview photos.

TO DO:
- Alternate mechanics for the items
- Possible balance tweaks

I made a policy of never undertaking night missions in Xenonaughts specifically because I don't like messign around with flares and lighting in turnbased game. But this looks like a well put together mod and I'm glad it's there for people who want it.

I am not sure if this could be classified as a BUG but: Reshi has Requiem Legion mod which features an Andromedon that can group cloak his party. Typically, they can be de-cloaked using scanning protocol or battle scanner. However, if Flare is thrown into them it shows their location but does not de-cloak them.

The item description will change to reflect the relevant info, yeah. For example, the infiltration bonuses, flare burn time, etc.

@Aquilio so if I have the mod in vanilla WOTC, it would be auto adjusted with difficulty setting?
Aquilio  [author] Jan 30 @ 7:44am
@william09703 They are not scrapped, they are an integral part of the mod.
Depending on your balance config settings and installed overhauls (CI/LWOTC), different stat descriptions will be displayed.

I see those localization lines for settings to functionality of flare and glowstick. were you have a plan for making the mod configuration but it ended up scrapped? if not, could I just do it in ini files? because they look very interesting

Thank you :)

Should be the same as for the regular Battle Scanners, sorry for the late answer.

Does the scanning properties of Flare only work on the initial turn?

Just tried these on an Ambushed Rescue Mission, and it was awesome!
