Since then the game has gotten much harder with A16-A20, and also the Heart. The Disciple is definitely not tuned well for those - Overall Disciple is weaker, but Pattern Shift in particular is very strong against the heart, and so are a few other cards that lower Strength or remove Buffs temporarily as they were designed without the Heart in mind.
Additionally, several Disciple mechanics, cards, and code was adopted or used directly with permission for the Watcher.
The rest of his cards just seem so weak and I have a hard time justifying picking them, but if I don't have anything in my deck I get rolled.
Even his starter relic is just Establishment, the relic. He really needs some buffs to feel playable, especially in higher ascension
