PRESENTS

The Solar Methane to H2 Fuel catalytic conversion " farm " unit.

Take all that station biological waste, put it in a tube, add water and carbon, seal it and when under power with heat and presure - convert the produced Methane ( CH4) to Hydrogen Fuel for your stations use!

Then for further processing, the system detects if its matching Oxygen CO-CO2 Scrub Farm is online and if so force feeds the CO and CO2 gas byproducts to that system for a proportional yield of Oxygen ( higher than the normal Hydroponic only solar farm ! )

METHANE GAS FROM WASTE TO H1 x 4 Per MOLECULE IN A SMALL BLOCK 1 X 1 x 3 ( height ) unit ! PLUS O x 3 per Methane molecule used from the byproducts. The leftover carbon gets re used as the catalyst in the initial methan cracking process.

The Rough Science of it.

"In steam-methane reforming, methane reacts with steam under 3–25 bar pressure (1 bar = 14.5 psi) in the presence of a catalyst to produce hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and a relatively small amount of carbon dioxide. Steam reforming is endothermic—that is, heat must be supplied to the process for the reaction to proceed."

"When the steam/CH4 ratio was 1.23, the production of hydrogen was maximized and the methane conversion rate was 99.7%. The syngas composition was determined to be 50.4% H2, 5.7% CO, 13.8% CO2, and 1.1% C2H2. ... Hydrogen production with catalyst was effective, compared with no catalyst."

Im still refining the math for the production rate in the farm BUT, thats the science of it :)

Unfortunately I cant make an all in one unit that will convert the leftover CO, CO2 and C2H2 in to O2, but will work on that.

Thanks to Nikolai March for a bit of inspiration and Shaostoul's online guides for modding, and for friends with tid bits here and there.

And yes, the unit is in a farm model but makes reactor noise, it IS a presurized bio-reacotor system with a solar breakdown element requiring circulation of chemicals / agitation.

People would say " you cant use a farm to make hydrogen ", which is true.

The oxygen generator is hydroponic, simple, basic.

This generates Hydrogen.

That cant be done with live plants. But you can use sunlight, dead bio waste matter ( food waste, human waste etc ), add water and a catalyst ( carbon based ) with additional heat to generate methane.

And that can be cracked to make hydrogen ( 4 molecules ) with traces of CO and CO2.

Thus with additional internal processing you get Methane to Hydrogen.

Thus it works.

Which is why the increase in parts needed to build this, motors, small steel tubes, extra construction components and an active reactor sound for the mechanical processes occurring. Extra Power requirements as well for the heat process.

Hydrogen "farm" for lack of a better word. Better words, a mechanical composter with gasifier.
