Background:
The Lakan-Class Command Ship / Wave Motion Gun Ship is a class of ship utilized by the Maharlikan Empire. It was constructed to be the flagship of a fleet. The Maharlikan Admiralty envisioned these ships to lead every fleet into battle. Every facet of coordination and communication came from her. Due to her status as a flagship, she was designed with a specific weapon in mind. A prototypical wave motion gun that reaches the theoretical limit of what a ship can handle. It was given the rank of Lantaka Class-S Wave Motion Gun. But because of this, the ship was expensive to build, and any further expenditures would strain the Maharlikan Economy. So, the Admiralty decided upon one course of action, make only eight of these ships. RPN Lakan is the lead ship of her class followed by RPN Datu, RPN Hari, RPN Reyna, RPN Principe, RPN Princessa, RPN Emperador, and RPN Bayani. These eight ships were launched and put into service. The greatest admirals now serve onboard these ships, spreading the might of Maharlika everywhere.

The Lakan class's origins started when the Aurora class battleships began service. In simplified terms, the Sarao Engine is a powerful piece of technology that creates infinite energy from the vacuum of space. This energy is called Wave Motion Energy due to its wave-like pattern. The application of the Sarao Engine throughout the fleet allowed for greater and more powerful weapons to be installed on ships. Maharlikan ships grew in size and displacement, their armaments were far more potent, and energy problems seemed to be a thing of the past. With this new-found technology, Maharlikan Scientists received an order from the Secretary of War to develop a weapon that uses the infinite energy provided by the Sarao Engine. The result was the Wave Motion Gun. The simple explanation for this weapon is that it launches an intense beam of hawking radiation from the evaporation of micro black holes that are produced from the gun. This weapon was equipped on the Aurora-Class battleships during the Incursion War, and it saw terrifying use against the Kobla Union and the CFN. This newfound discovery led to High Admiral Joseph Caldera speaking to the Secretary of War to create a more powerful version to be equipped with his vision of ships.

The plans for such a weapon were never implemented before. But the High Admiral was adamant about such a plan. He wanted a flagship of a fleet that took the center role with an ultra-powerful weapon to support the fleet. The weapon was perfect for his plans. It took roughly a year for Maharlikan scientists to perfect a weapon with such potential. The weapon’s completion created the Lantaka Class System to categorize Wave Motion Guns in terms of power. What the scientists created was the Lantaka Class-S Wave Motion Gun. The largest wave motion gun that could be mounted on a ship. As a result of this development, the weapon could now be housed on a ship platform.

When the weapon was completed, High Admiral Joseph Caldera had Maharlikan Naval Engineers design a ship that could house a weapon under these specifications. First (1), the ship must be capable of housing the weapon in question. Second (2), the ship must be able to command fleets with an extensive array of communications and coordination rooms. Thirdly (3), The ship could be produced affordably. The two prerequisites were met, but the issues came with the third one. The relatively new weapon was costly to produce and fitting them onto the ship posed challenges. So the program was redesigned to accommodate those realities. The ship was only to be produced in low quantities with only eight being feasible. These ships were constructed, but they missed the Third Koblan-Maharlikan War. They were launched just in time for the Fourth Koblan-Maharlikan War.

The ship that was designed and produced was christened the name, “Lakan-Class” Command Ships. They were named after the title of the head of state of the Maharlikan Empire. The following ships were produced: RPN Datu, RPN Hari, RPN Reyna, RPN Principe, RPN Princessa, RPN Emperador, and RPN Bayani. These ships would command a fleet respectively and would see regular combat. During the Fourth Koblan-Maharlikan War, the RPN Lakan was the first ship to fire the first round. The 13th, 33rd, and 331st fleets were deployed along the front line to challenge the Maharlikan 1st Fleet. When the Lakan fired her wave motion gun, 66% of the enemy’s forces were annihilated. This was when the Lakan-Class revealed its power, but it also revealed its coordination. The orders it sent out allowed for effective control over the fleet. Eventually, all but 300 enemy ships survived the battle and fled from combat. The only reason why they survived was that the Admiral at that time wanted to instill fear amongst the Koblans. The terrifying might of Maharlika had been fully realized.

Note:
Lakan is an actual historical title used in the Philippines. It’s commonly used for alt-history stories for a monarchical society in the Philippines. I use Lakan to denote the paramount leader of the Maharlikan Empire. In essence, the Maharlikan Emperor.
The original design had two wave motion guns installed, but I scrapped it as it was too ugly.
I don’t recommend using this ship as a battleship. It’s a command ship, a primarily RP purpose. It’s a ship meant to support and coordinate others.
I also don’t recommend building this thing in survival. It’s stupidly expensive but beautiful to look at.
The original inspiration for this ship came from a fan design called “Vesuvius.”
Originally, I just wanted to build a wave motion gun ship, but I decided to give it the double function of it being a command ship.
Who knew that broadcast centers can also work as damage control broadcasts!
