For anyone on the fence about buying this game, for whatever reason, fear not. This game is the PERFECT blend between arcade and realism. With a fully interactable cockpit, a HOTAS or similar systems are not necessary, and can only be used by installing a mod. This allows for great accessibility for anyone who can't or isn't willing to spend all the money for flight sim controls.

It's a little confusing at first, there's a lot of acronyms and different systems you'll have to familiarize yourself with. I recommend playing through each tutorial multiple times to learn and really understand the systems of whichever aerial platform you're flying. Setting up your own payload configurations can also be overwhelming so I'd recommend watching some YouTube videos to familiarize yourself with the terminology and intended uses of each payload type.

It's an overall fun and fairly simple to learn VR flight sim. Doesn't require expensive, high end equipment to run and runs pretty smoothly due to it's "poorer" graphics. A great starter for beginners and newcomers to the flight sim scene.

Early Access Review
This game is only fun if you have at least four total people playing. If you're solo, you get AI teammates but if you have another player with you, there are no friendly AI. The enemy AI have some serious aimbot. Not gonna lie, it's hard to not die. Once you're down, you're down. The enemies will aim straight for your head and they will hit every shot. If they see even the tiniest pixel on your body, they will immediately target you. Sneaking isn't even an option. You practically have to carry every flashbang available just to have a chance. Better hope you don't accidentally aim too high and hit the door frame and flash your whole team instead. It's a good game, there's just a few things that need tweaked to make it worth playing at the moment. If you're okay with bugs that seem like features, it is playable.

The most infuriating, enjoyable game I have ever played. Zero microtransactions, zero paywalls, free dlc released with game patches, a ridiculous amount of content. I'm on my second playthrough and there's still so much that I haven't done or even seen. The replayability is insane. You can do new game plus, which allows you to restart from the beginning with all your gear and stats. Everything scales in difficulty, obviously. You actually have to learn attack patterns for boss fights. Regular enemies can sometimes hit as hard as a boss and will kill you sometimes. It can be very aggravating, but even after a rage quit I'll get right back on to go back for more. It keeps pulling you in. The only real issue is the multiplayer isn't the best. There are some pretty frequent connection problems so if you're playing with a friend or trying pvp, you may get disconnected. But other than that, this is a genuinely good game. The first genuinely good game that we have gotten in a very long time. This game is beyond worth it to buy.

don't buy this sh*t. rare is a terrible dev studio incapable of pleasing its players in any way, shape, or form. hit registration is a MAJOR issue they've been unable to fix since early seasons. server lag, packet loss, getting randomly disconnected, and an entire noah's ark worth of other issues keep this game from being as good as it can be. from boats deciding they're planes now and randomly launching into the air to weapons not firing and buckets not scooping, this game has it all when it comes to poorly functioning mechanics. don't buy this, don't even get it on game pass for free. this game is awful and buggier than a bethesda game. rare doesn't even market it for what it is; a sandbox pvp game. for some reason, they market it as a sandbox friend making game. this leads to a lot of players being confused and angry when you try to sink them for their loot, or the more common issue that plagues these seas: runners. ever dream of chasing someone for two hours all over the map while they make every attempt they can to tell you how toxic you're being and to just leave them alone, even though you never even actually fired at them? this is the perfect game for you. i'd say easily over 100 of my in-game hours were spent just chasing grown adults who think attacking someone in a pirate game is toxic. and let's not forget about the sh*tshow that is live content updates. for some reason, rare thinks spending all their time making complicated mysteries that take literal months to solve and glorified fetch quests with re-skinned content we already have is a good idea. not to mention, IT'S ALL TIME LIMITED. they spend months and months working on a boring story that half the players completely ignore just for the whole event to end in two weeks. but the actual seasons, those are PLENTY long. rare has a time honored practice of extending every already-too-long season another 6 weeks once a season nears its end. they say it's to allow players more time to complete the plunder pass, but that thing is easily finished in just five or six two hours gaming sessions. seasons are around 3 months long by default. add another 6 weeks at the end of that. then add on another 4-8 weeks due to delays with new "content." all the while, prevalent issues like hit registration and desync still continue to plague the game. for example, the current season 9 launched march 16, 2023. it's just been extended AGAIN until october. with no real in-game content to hold us over until then. just one single monthly tall tale to complete that'll be removed from the game when the next one launches. btw these tall tales are made to be completed in just one sitting, so they only take about an hour or so to do by yourself. the single best update this game ever got was the hourglass pvp mode. on-demand pvp based on crew and ship size. it wasn't added until season 8 and is already a dying mode. insanely long queue times, loss farmers, trolls, bugs, and third parties leave you ready to smash your keyboard into your great grandma's knee cap repeatedly.

Rare is a terrible dev studio with not one single clue as to how to please their playerbase. the game feels unplayable 80% of the time, and with most of the best looking cosmetics being locked behind hundreds of hours of grinding, the game just isn't worth your money
