its not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but not very good either, the story is kinda meh as its basically the same old germany won ww2 shtick with not much more. the pacing really starts to suck as you get deeper into the game with it just being fight after fight with nothing of substance like the tense picture picking scene closer to the beginning.

the controls are very bad, with no ADS sensitivity slider that is locked significantly lower than looking sensitivity, Q and E peeking is replaced by holding ALT and then A or D for the respective direction, and going prone is ALT + S, the combat itself also just being very bland hide under cover shoot back.

(minor spoilers) final bossfight is also very boring against the general. especially phase 2 where he's a huge bullet sponge in a room with very limited visibility

goodness me, what a lovely game.

in terms of story, themes, and characters. This game is great. But the actual gameplay is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ by modern day standards, terrible controls with features like forced mouse acceleration, very clunky gunfights and covering fire. etc. but worst of all this game has almost no checkpoints ever in missions. often leading to you failing a mission at the end, then having to replay the whole thing, including driving to the location, shooting the bad guys, then driving somewhere else. making mission fails very punishing and frustrating. if this game could be brought kicking and screaming into 2023 it could be great, but i wouldn't bother with this as is.

I dont get the hate on this DLC that much. the only real issues ive found are switzerland and how clunky the air system is with reinforcements. switzerland is boring because its a click button simulator with very convoluted choices, and things like cas with AT cannons seperating from cas with bombs is kinda strange and often limits continuously upgrading. Other than that Italy and Ethiopia are great, ive never had an issue where id trigger the civil war as italy. and apart from previously mentioned issues with the air, on the whole i really enjoy it.

this game has probably the most fun gunplay ive ever had the pleasure of playing with, the ability to both have the option to play as a coordinated team or play one man army and both being viable is amazing and i love it, if you feel you can put the hours into a dying game and learn the mechanics its an absolute blast. however i would absolutely not recommend this game to anyone outside of europe areas as the player base anywhere but europe is very much dead. if your in eu however this game is great to pick up and stay hooked thanks to its very grindy nature, just make sure you have fun in this game while grinding up weapons to avoid burnout.
