A short-ish survival horror that has interesting puzzles, wierd "what is going on rn" moments, characters that I actually like, and all in all doesn't overstay it's welcome imo (not that I was getting tired of it). Was almost disappointed when I found out I 100% it, since I was in it enough to want to do a "speed run" or some other achievement for the hell of it. Overall, had fun with this and would love to see more like this from GG and/or Rouge (whoever had more of an influence idk I just like games like this man) GOOD PLAY GAME GOOD THERE

Shut up. Skullgirls is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. The amount of people who are ♥♥♥♥♥ hurt by the recent update aggravates me to no end. People complaining that "this wasn't the game I payed for" or "this is just straight up censorship" need to just get over themselves. They removed some elements and art that seemed "distasteful" like the Egret's arm bands looking Nazi-esq, adjusted some pallets for characters, removed the soviet announcer (I thought he was funny but I'll live unlike THEM), some story mode illustrations to make them a bit less sexual (even though there's still plenty oh don't you worry), and little things like removing "Barely Legal" as the 18-hit combo flavor text. Prior to the update, I bought Skullgirls so I could play a good fighting game. This update drops and changed nothing regarding what the FGC should even give a damn about in the first place as gameplay and the project as a whole has been left unchanged. "Oh no the soviet announcer voice and Big Band being beaten up by police officers were taken away from us! Oh the humanity!" Literally just drop the game and move on if it hurts your feelings so badly. I'm no 2k hour frame-data semi-finalist at EVO, but I have loads of fun labbing and practicing combos to try online. Bundle that with the unique take on tag fighters with a colorful cast to boot makes this one of my favorite fighting games I've played and those who haven't tried it yet and like fighting games should NOT take the recent "oh no my panty shots are gone" reviews to heart. Games change in accordance with how those involved feel they should be presented so who cares? So long as the subject matter stays the same with this game, there should be nothing to complain about minus the recent few that want their 3 seconds of fame to dog on a game because everyone else is. This is still the game I bought all that time ago. With that said, if THIS is all it takes for someone to hate this game to no end, then just hate it I guess. But steer clear of saying "bad game, don't buy" when panty shots and things that don't affect gameplay in any sense of the word are the only thing you DO care about.

After playing through Dark Descent and Justine, I guess I had my hopes for their successor. While the story and characters are interesting (especially in the final acts of the game), its very linear and almost everything felt like a straight line with no back-tracking or interesting puzzles the previous game had. It holds true in other reviews of it feeling like a spooky haunted house at a state fair, with this iteration losing some atmosphere and relying more on jump-scare tactics and loud sudden noises. All coupled with the fact that there is no sanity, no oil for the lamp, no tinder boxes, and no inventory. The last one makes "puzzles" into something you can just interact with and solve it by accident. While the main character speaks a bit more in the direct sense (on the phone and to himself) compared to Daniel, he comes off as very "Videogame-y" before the final acts ("Your children are trapped, Mundus, and there's monster pig men everywhere or something and you have no idea who I am or whats going on." "I'm a normal human that isn't going to question anything and instead is just gonna go with it and develop a conscious later when the player gives up on me. Also phone man friend unga bunga"). Maybe a "me" problem, but sometimes information was very vague and obtuse to where I had to translate it from "Distinguished Gentlemen Poet" to "Human" due to how it was portrayed, but like I said, it is still very much a straight line. If you are a fan of the series or on a binge to play all the games, this is the one that I would've just watched someone play instead. The game took me 3 hours to beat, with Dark Descent at 10 currently (single playthru, no hard mode).

TL;DR Story is kinda interesting, game is too short, too easy/puzzles don't exist, game is a screensaver that throws a cheap jump-scare or loud noise every other minute, watch it on YouTube or something.

This game brings back so many memories and buying it on another system makes me "have" to 100% it again lol. While yes, the controller support is strange and has been known to hardly work if at all, using the controller config in the steam overlay works just fine for me. Its a little strange at first but doesn't take much to get working and has never been a problem for me since. Don't be afraid to delve into this game again because of the controller issue since its really not that bad. People just got there panties in a twist I guess (dont blame em though since native would be nicer since they say so on the store page). Also co-op without having to pay for an online subscription, yay!

EDIT: I never thought about this up until now after starting to replay through it, but anyone who sees this first (or for me in the future) can go to "guides" and one of the first of them will tell you an easy fix. Basically installing DirectX, using a patch that utilizes x360ce to re-activate controller support (because it IS there innately just with xbox only for whatever reason), and disable DR2's controller config via Big Picture Mode. You'll only have to do the process again whenever you re-install the game, so I just have that patch I mentioned handy so I can just drag it into the game directory whenever I need to rekindle my love for jumping out of bounds with a skateboard.

Early Access Review
Whew...ok. So I can see that this has potential. I like how the menus look (to a degree) and the characters seem cool in terms of design whether or not their voice overs sound cheesy. That being said, the ONLY thing I could play was training. I'm a HUGE Smash fan and will be more than willing to try a PC Smash game, but I can only try so much of whatever the game wants me to. I even had trouble navigating menus and setting controls. Also kind of wished the movesets were a little more unique as I recognize a bunch of moves from Smash:

Televisor's side special is Marth/Lucina/Roy/Chroms Sword Dance (You can even change the direction)

Renegade is a slightly different Ganondorf without his Warlock Punch but still has his forward tilt and down air

Mary Rose is the most unique character I'd say even though some moves still seem famliliar. Also her down special is kind of like Villagers only it's a TF2-esq Turret that shoots for 2 seconds then dies.

Empurr is Pikachu with his Neutral and Side Special

Metorias' design is pretty cool actually, but his moveset is "suprisingly" similar to Ike's (His air moves kind of did that for me, also his down special looks to be a counter. Of course I couldn't test this due to me not being able to FIGHT ANYTHING)

Hiro is Captain Falcon. Falcon Punch is down special instead of neutral and his tilts are there too. His forward air is Falcon's neutral air. He also has a bar that fills during attacks that powers his neutral special which is basicaly the same as R.O.B.'s

I don't really know what to say at this point. I know it's early and I hope it gets some polish later down the road as some animations look pretty good. In all honesty, It's free so there's not a huge loss here. That being said, I can't see myself playing this over Smash since we have other PC Smash games [Slap City, Rivals Of Aether, Icons] to play that have more polish (Icons has problems too but thats a different topic. I ended up getting bored pretty quickly obviously and I'm hoping later down the road this review is a "Recommended" as I don't enjoy leaving Negative reviews. Hopefully TeePee Studios (ugh) fixes some issues later down the road so I can be able to actually Play the game next time.

Rivals Of Aether is possibly the closest you are gonna get to Steam Smash (until they find a way to make something like that lel). It focuses on frame data and the competetive scene quite a bit, but also welcomes new/casual players and teaches them the tech in the game. It has more of a Melee feel if you want to compare to Smash, but Rivals definatly has it's own take on things. For example, if you were to air dodge in Melee, you would free fall and probobly die if there was no ledge to grab onto. On the flip side, in Rivals, you can air dodge into a wall jump to recover your air dodge again but there is no ledge grabbing whatsoever. I reccomend this to someone whos heared of Smash or just the platform fighting scene from their friends and wants to give it a go. Perfect for those who may not own a Nintendo console (It's coming to Switch ^.^)

P.S: If you want to try any other platform fighters like this, I'd try Slap City as it is in the same vein as this only following the Smash formula a bit more.

So I don't normaly give reviews but this was described to me as "Dark Souls in space" so I was pretty much obligated to try it out.

It could use some fixing up due to its clunky, rough around the edges feel:

- Janky animations (some)
- A.I. jumping off platforms or not attacking no matter how much I attack them
- Framerate drops in certain areas (nothing too terrible but the game would be better without it)
- Enemies spawning inside me whenever I backtrack (this happend a few times because I was lost...I wasn't stuck inside them or anything it just threw me off-guard and they got a free hit in)
- Menus could use some work (there where times where I would want to check stats on an armor piece I got but the menu got cut off early so I couldn't read it)
- Camera was fighting me a bit
- Red Room (I don't know if this is just me, but the room before the boss will sometimes have a red "fog" you'll have to pass through and fight a bunch of enemies untill the game decides to let you through. Since I was still learning the bosses patterns/attacks, I died a few times. The pain in the ass part is when sometimes the room COMES BACK and makes me DO IT AGAIN when the boss room is OPEN and ALL I wann DO IS FIGHT THE DAMN BOSS AGAIN...srry :P)

That being said, I'd be lying if I said I didn't love it:
- Interesting setting/armor/etc.
- Responsive, familiar controls
- Cool "Souls Retrieval System" (When you die, A hologram of you spawns with your "souls" and you have to fight yourself to get them back, which I thought was pretty neat)
- 2 player split screen (something that I didn't expect from a soul-ish game. I didn't try it but the idea of it I think is pretty cool since whenever I would try playing Dark Souls w/ a friend, it would be a pain-in-the-ass game of chance. T_T)
- Weapon leveling system (as you use a particular weapon, a gauge will fill as you do dmg with the weapon. When it fills to a mark, it will unlock a stat bonus or a weapon art/skill. It can give you -5 stamana cost whilst swinging the weapon in question or an attack that lets you throw a "laser axe" at the enemy. Only one weapon 'to my knowlege' in the demo cannot do this)
- Enemies Strength (After killing enemies and hanging around for awhile or coming back to the area where they spawn, they'll come back with an orange glow and have more health...which is neat. I'm not sure if it makes them stronger in terms of attack but it sure as hell feels like it lol)

So I'm gonna click YES on recommend, but I REALLY want to see some changes if thats cool :3 (yeah one more list):

- Smooth out animations
- Fix menus
- Fix camera (Especially in boss fights. If other bosses are going to be as high scaled as the Undisturbed guy, I wouldn't mind a camera that zooms out a bit more or something. because when he did his Dark Homing Orb attack, I couldn't see it until it hit me. Same with his standard attacks but I just blocked those since it wasn't that damaging. I still want that fixed though because the only thing I could see was ME and KNEES...thats it ._.)

Soooooooo yeah. All in all it was fun regardless of the aggrivation here and there. While a bit clunky, a little TLC (PYT sorry I had to lol) could make this game stand out like a sore thumb...a bald, long-legged, budda monk whatever thumb.

UPDATE: I just got done beating this for the third time (yes with every class because why not) and I am in fact on-board for Hellpoint. Seems better when you play through it again lol (still fix le things plz)
