Standing on the shoulders of the Dark Souls series, The Surge might be best described as an evolution within the soulslike genre. Compared to its logical ancestors it is a way more polished and focussed experience with a still very demanding but also smooth progression. To me - who plays Dark Souls 3 while writing this - Deck 13 Interactive has brilliantly managed to cut out everything annoying and enhance everything amazing within their contribution to the soulslike genre. A great game for beginners and connoisseurs.
