Probably one of, if not the best souls-like game for me personally. I found this to be the most satisfying and engaging game, but also fairly challenging one I've played.
Once the combat system "clicks" and you get used to the mechanics it's very rewarding.
Really good game. Awesome VA too. Do NOT play in english, do yourself a favor and just play with japanese audio.

This review will be containing a spoiler free and not free sections, I will identify each one so you can know what you are about to read.

SOMA has an amazing story (which I will be getting a bit deeper into down below), very good graphics and a tense atmosphere. Personally, it had me hooked and intrigued from the moment it started. Every different level design is unique and makes the game fresh in every area, you will never have the feeling that the devs slacked off or got lazy.

There isn't really replayability, but for the first time you play it, you will love it, it has a great story that will leave you something to think about.

Besides the great story, it is also a horror game, which makes it a very pleasant experience, it's not so much the "jump scares" that scare you, but more so the ambient itself, the more you explore the world around you, the more you find out about what happenned and what's going on and the creepier it gets.

Overall a very worth it game. I absolutely recommend.

"The Teleportation Paradox"

Let's say you have a machine that is able to teleport you from one point to another, however to do so it "kills" you, breaking down every single atom that once made you up and then it transmits all the data of what you were to another machine which then remakes you, putting all the right atoms in the right spot.

The question here is: Is the person that came into the machine the same person coming out of the other machine? You have the same memories and thoughts, but everything that physically makes you is different... You'd remember everything up to being teleported and re-emerging on the other side, but everything in between is.. lost.

So is it your identity, your emotions, feelings and your thoughts that make you.. you? When you wake up in the morning how do you know you're the same person who went to sleep? And when you close your eyes how would you know if that's the same person opening them?

This is exactly what this game's story set out to explore, and it did a fantastic job. Leaving you thinking about life in a way you wouldn't expect at all. Very good work from Fictional Games, I completely agree what they describe the game as: "An unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human."

A great game

If you're thinking of buying it because of the sequel, then do it! The story is amazing, replayablity is very very good, I've played it several times back in the ps3 and got the platinum and then got it for the pc and did the same, so I've played it so many times, but everytime I enjoy just as much.

The DLCs are aso pretty good, I really liked the Brigmore Witches (which gives you some insight for the sequel).

Overall, fantastic game, you'll have a blast with it, 100% recommend!

The story, the graphics, the environment, the creatures, the people, the voice cast, the gameplay, everything is fenomenal, recommend playing the 2033 first. Great game, great sequel for an amazing story. Loved both games, highly recommend both.
