That's called the Weather Underground. The Democrats have discovered that it is easier to kill Republicans than it is to reason with them. That's what the Weather Underground did. Virginia Democrats elected a man who fantasized about killing the kids of GOP politicians to Attorney General.
Keep in mind, statistically, if ten percent of a population is radicalized enough to take up arms, even if the government holds, it creates an insurgency incapable of being ended. Just ask FARC. Heck, one percent creates a permanent insurgent presence, but not one capable of destabilizing beyond targeted hits.
They have ceased to reason or exchange dialog. They desire our subjugation. First, you must disarm a man. That's why they want "common sense gun laws."
That played a big factor.
Regardless, ground invasion was unlikely, especially when Germany lost air superiority in 1940(?). Before then, it seemed feasible especially if Germany air dropped (or landed conventionally) troops onto the island and avoid the British navy.
Or if Britain simply surrendered, which is what Hitler was hoping for.
I don't think Germany's navy ever surpassed Britain's navy, in either numbers or technology... did they?
