Holy oh my l*rd was I surprised.

Backstory set the mood, its the early 2000's, my brother recently installed a SNES Emulator on the family PC and its filled with RPG's, I try them all out. Final Fantasy 1-6, Dragon Quests, Secret of Mana, Secret of EVERMORE. I played them all, but out of all of them, Breath of Fire 2 was my favorite. I still remember how pumped I got when I got the adult dragon upgrade all on my own with "no walkthrough!!!". Later on I played a ton of RPG's on my GBA. Whenever my dad took me to GameStop, I'd grab whatever cheap RPG's I could find just to play them. Golden Sun was the holy grail of GBA games to me. Over the years I've played all the RPG's that have came out I feel, or pretty close to them. I forgot what I even liked about them, it was just the type of games I liked to play, none of them really exciting me.

Then I saw this $30 dollar indie game on Steam with the coolest sprite style and art. At the time I didn't expect much of it, seemed like it had good reviews and people liked it, saw articles on it, figured I'd try it out. I haven't found myself smiling at my screen like this in the longest time. Instead of yelling at my brother to come look at what boss I had to fight, I was turning to my wife in bed telling her to look at how cool my mech was I just got. She did not give a single d*ng about my mechs. I did. This game has no level system, every fight feels like a game of chess, no grinding to kill a boss. Either learn the mechanics or die. And mid game I really felt that, but I am so proud to say by end boss, I understood what my team needed and beat them both first try, but don't let that fool you. I had to master mechanics I failed at all game. Only use attack moves in pokemon? Gonna have a terrible time, buffs are SO SO SO important. The feel to the game is amazing, the story sucks you in, the party feels like this rag tag group that feels like a natural fit, not forced like so many other games. All in all, this is one of my top 5 favorite RPG's, I don't even know how to convince you at this point. If you were a small boy/girl/etc. that loved rpg's, you will find so much joy in this game.
