A Letter on Motion
People often assume that progress begins with extraordinary discoveries.

In my experience, it rarely does.

More often, it begins with a simple observation; one that others have learned to ignore.

For us, that observation was friction.

Not merely as a physical force, but as something present in nearly every part of life. In movement. In engineering. In relationships. In confidence. Even in the quiet moments where comfort determines whether an experience is remembered with satisfaction or regret.

Many people accept discomfort as inevitable.

We never did.

When Dr. Klaus Kink and I founded this Institute, we shared a belief that science should not exist only to solve dramatic problems. Sometimes its greatest contribution is making life's most personal moments feel a little more natural, a little more comfortable, and a little more human.

That philosophy continues to guide every researcher, every engineer, and every member of our Institute.

We study motion because every meaningful connection begins with it.

We study comfort because confidence depends on it.

And we pursue excellence because the smallest improvements are often the ones people remember the longest.

Our work has never been about removing friction from life entirely. Some friction belongs exactly where it is.

It challenges us.

It teaches us.

It reminds us that meaningful relationships require patience, understanding, and care.

Our responsibility is simply to know the difference between the friction that strengthens us... and the friction that never should have been there in the first place.

That distinction has shaped every decision we've made since 1958.

And, I believe, it always will.

Excellence is built quietly.
Comfort is engineered deliberately.
