Review in progress as i beat the game but my thoughts now are;

Combat is fine and can even be fun and very engaging/satisfying when the design is there to allow to to utalize your tool-kit. Rather than being punished for trying this move/spell

Map design is rather phenomenul (in the early game only, otherwise it's big and empty . yet somehow makes Darks Souls 2's world feel full to the brim. It's just that empty) as it twists and turns around and in itself that it feel like exploring Dark Souls 1 again. Before you know it, you'll come across a door or shortcut that leads back to the start or an area very close to the last rest point point that it just flows in your head and is a true joy to explore. And the further you get the more big, open and empty the levels become. Clearly level design was a focus early on in development but trailed off into oblivion as the dev cycle continued.

But the team leans into the cheap tricks to add difficulty, that doesn't add to difficulty rather than piss off the player base. IE: Enemies on every blind corner. If your on as ledge, there will be an enemy with as push attack just in front of you, ready to kill you. Have an area where magic is plentiful, enemies are resistant to all our magic

Overall:
Game is fine. Game is cheap in its level design/ enemy placement

This game makes me wish for a neutral category for steam reviews either way though.

The most basic of basic platformers. If you've played super Mario 3 on the NES or anything newer:

Skip this game, unless you want he bare bones of a platformer and not much else

Great game finally on pc.

I have never played it before until now, having a blast. If you like the "RockStar" formula type of game grab it and enjoy. If the formula is appealing to you in a casual i have fun but don't immediately like it way (like myself)
definitely pick this up on sale, as I have had a blast with this title

Still full of little ♥♥♥♥ design choices that should be null & void by now (post 3rd DLC launch) but what do i know.

Great if you brought it before the DLC dropped.

As every DLC makes the game worse to control and fight. The "new" read "DLC" enemies dodge everything cause ♥♥♥♥ you.

Have fun. NOT

If you didn't welcome to scam island, a new map full of ♥♥♥♥ to do (after a full year of promise) Yet somehow feels even less empty tan the tutorial. Where any new ♥♥♥♥ is locked till a second or fifth playthrough (miles will vary) of said DLC, if you can be bothered to do it again. Especially when going through with a friend who didn't grind the rougelite elements cause it should've mattered, It doesn't BTW. So ♥♥♥♥ you for wasting your time (what a loser trying to get a slight advantage of any kind over anyone who just purchased the 3rd dlc)

All I can say is, stay off the big chair in the realm of negative as that's my chair and you're not welcome to sit in it until you hear all of my complaints for games game's going back to the 1980's
