Really cool, I very much enjoyed my play through.

Except for one thing that really irked me.
We'd spent all this time building our cool base, full walls, spikes around the whole thing, traps at the entrances...
Then a couple big guys spawned and attacked, and destroyed it all. We had like half the walls left. Everything else was totalled.
Gave a weird feeling - do they want me to build a base or no? Cause the game plays like I have to protect the base more than it protects me.
From that moment, a bad taste was left in my and my co-op partners mouths, and we decided to go underground and just finish the story. We literally never needed to go back to the base. Food and water was plentiful in the caves.

Really weird. Hopefully the next one makes the base building actually somewhat necessary. You could play this game by just building the smallest shelter at the start then just doing the story.

Holy crap this is a buggy POS. Don't buy this garbage

Just can't shake the complete total lack of polish and the feeling of cheap knock-off version of something.
It has the right systems (mostly, from what i've seen), right ideas that make these kind of games click with a certain audience... but man it just doesn't feel good at all.
I just saw that it's $42AUD now?
That's an absolute laugh.

Disappointing at its current stage, which pains me to admit.

Feels like early access DLC - no doubt Hopoo will fix and work on the issues like they did with the base game (which I do consider one of my fav games ever). But yeah, at the moment it just isn't really worth it. The void items are cool, but there's a lot of crap you gotta wade through. The Void Fiend character is... terrible. Just badly designed. It's like it was designed for a different game and tested in a different game. Why, in a game where healing is such an important part of surviving in the hardest difficulty, would the character's power be significantly nerfed by healing?

Also no patch notes, yeah I get you had a lot of changes but none? You's didn't write anything down at all? When you've made seemingly excessive changes like buffing fire elite damage we'd really love to know what kinda change was made.

Anyway, they'll fix it in the next couple months or so I suppose.

A masterpiece of game design and storytelling.

And i'm not gonna lie, never been a fan of the Souls games, I didn't like the complete lack of direction/explanation/thrown in the deep end aspects. Yeah, sue me. I'd love the challenging boss fights if I knew what the ♥♥♥♥ i was doing prior, or during, or something.
FromSoft games are just the same thing and that thing ain't for me

So bloody good to play with friends as either couch or online multiplayer.
Looks brilliant and plays great!

Tentative recommend.

If you haven't played the original Subnautica, do NOT play this. Go play the original. It is simply superior.
If you've played the original and really loved it, then yeah, you can play this. But don't expect to be as blown away as you were by the first. And don't expect to feel like it was just a bit... pointless. There's some interesting story and world-building at play here in Below Zero, but it largely leaves a sense of... pointlessness, it kills me to say.

All I can hope for is when they venture back to do another entry in the series, they leave the protagonist as a voiceless character.

One of the best games of all time for me.
