I haven't written a review for a game on Steam in quite some time, mostly because I'm usually not that invested in any game I play enough to warrant it. However, every so often, one comes along that just blindsides me. Doom Eternal is one such game. When I first played it, I hated it because of the changes to the ammo economy, which many others here have mentioned. I shelved the game, never planning to return. Jump a few years into the future, and Doom: The Dark Ages gets announced. I remembered having never completed the DLC for Doom Eternal, so I reluctantly decided to try the game again. I'm glad I did, because this time around, I fell head-over-heels in love with it. There really is something cathartic about zipping around like a fighter jet, quick-swapping weapons (usually between the Super Shotgun and Ballista), and smoking basically everything that steps to you. It felt amazing. I loved it so much, I went back and got all the achievements for it, just like I did in Doom 2016. With all that said, based upon my experience after giving it a second chance, I highly, highly recommend Doom Eternal. Now, because I'm compulsive when it comes to completing achievements, I finally feel free to move on to Doom: The Dark Ages in earnest, and unlike my earlier self from times-past, I'm actually looking forward to the changes made therein, rather than dismissing them in knee-jerk fashion. Thanks for an awesome game, id and Bethesda - very well done.
