One of my favorite games of all time, a timeless master piece, that is currently unplayable on official server because of a bot problem that despite being recognized by Valve more than 2 years ago, has not been fixed, and only gotten worse.

I hope this game will one day see the attention it deserves, but as of now it needs some serious help.

Never has a game with so much potential been handed to a more incompetent dev team.

Great game, but bugs and server issues are present, especially in early days.
The world is immensely dense, and closest thing to a true sandbox experience.

A big review bomb is happening in the game bc GM made a decision that the largest alliance didnt like. Children throwing a hissy fit bc they could ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and bend the GMs to their will. Utterly insane.

A 2 team, 2-D, fort building, capture the flag, class based brawler. Certainly a mouthful. King Arthur's Gold certainly gets points for orginality, and even more points for execution. I was suprised by the balance and depth of this title. It really is like nothing out at the time. The team stratagy, and cordination of builders, attackers, and defenders is impressive in pug games.

If you want something manic, yet refined this game is for you.

Captains log, stardate 20XX. I've just entered the purple teir 2 system after attacking my 3rd unarmed civilian vessel to salvage their scap. Tensions are high among the crew...sexual tension that is. That rock monster is such a tease, she knows she wants all this.

This is the life of captain in FTL. If you ever wanted to live out your fantasy of captain kurt, sexual fantasies and all (minus the sexual fantasies) then this game is for you. It plays more like a real time board game then a traditional video game, and I have to say I rather enjoy it.

The game is a Roguelike game with heavy RNG, but allows for different experiences in every playthrough. Many options abound to customize your ship, and you swap between an overworld map, and a battle screen for in system fights.

The strength of this game are also its greatest weakness. Yes RNG allows for different and unexpected play experiences, but it's also unexpected that I missed my 4th missile in a row, and that the next merchant does not sell fuel. Frustration goes hand in hand with exploration in this, yet if you can look past that the game has a lot to offer.

Quake live is a relaunch of Quake 3, and that is not at all a horrible thing. In an era of braindead shooters, and boring movement through flat unistring levels, Quake scoffs your Modern military shooters and rocket jumps it’s way up a wall.

If “realism” is something you want in a game then Quake is not for you (why you want to portray “realism” in a game about killing people is another issue entirely). Quake is instead about creating interesting game dynamics. Physics and all sensibilities be damned, they’re secondary to good game play.

Quake has more than just a few things going for it. The movement is perhaps the most nuanced and complex in all of gaming, The weapons balanced and finetuned over a decade and a half of balancing, the level design is the best in any fps, and the community...well ok the community is mostly elitist jerks like any other internet game, but dammit they’re quake jerks, a special breed close to my heart, spouting out the truths of the PC faith (Always us optical mice, MX Cherry Reds forever, 120+ frames or I’m not even playing).

It’s free. Even if you have no interest in arena shooter I recommend you hop on in and get a quick history lesson with the granddaddy of FPS.

It's everything I wanted a successor of the original Dota to be. That is to say the game is really just more Dota but with a facelift, and the bugs of the WC3 engine purged from the game. I really can’t say anything about DOTA that hasn't been said. It’s balanced, it is so so deep, it is rewarding and addictive, and rarely feels cheap.

Dota is in my humble opinion the definitive MOBA.

Natural selection, Chivalry, Trouble in terrorist Town, Fist Full of Frags, this is the reason I believe in the PC as a gaming platform. The availability of tools and openness of the platform. Fist Full of frags demonstrates PC gaming at its best.

Aside from being a great underdog to root for, the gameplay is solid. Very mechanically driven (rare for a shooter in modern gaming), full of environments where every square inch is thought out. The gun play is excellent with alternate fire modes for guns, varying aiming mechanics, and a hierarchy in weapon power. Pistols can be fanned for an increased fire rate, Double Barrel Shotguns can expend both shots, rifles can aim down sights, and knifes can be thrown. The variety of weapons is solid with every weapon changing your game play in a meaningful way, and not just being the same gun with a different model. The mechanics are for the most part clearly represented in game. The cone of fire system rewards moving slower (shift in game), but introduces risk in making you an easier target. Whiskey in game heals you, but at the cost of making you drink. I love the idea of trading lethality for survivability, and think this system could be used to check crazzy kill streaks, but the drunk state doesn't last long. Because of this it’s always worth filling back on HP.

The map design is something to be appreciated as well. You can see care has been taken in allowing traffic to run smoothly through the map. This keeps camping at a minimum and makes combat very mobile. Trains often move through the center of town, and set pieces like banks, saloons, horses are a nice touch. Rooms have multiple entrances, and angles to fire from. With TNT this ensures that no one will turtle up in a room indefinitely.

Fist Full of Frags is not a looker, but she is Old school in all the right ways. A refined game with obviously tons of love put in it. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed FPS, or had an interest in game design.
