Started playing again to finish it in time for Part 2, definitely worth playing. Most of the release bugs and performance issues are long gone. Shame the modding tools never went anywhere, had the potential for another Skyrim level of modding if they were finished.

Sony tries to force PSN signups, people complain because this would lock 177+ countries out from playing the game, Sony backtracks, then proceeds to silently disable access to the game in those countries anyway.

I hope somehow, against all odds, Arrowhead can break out of their deal with Sony for this BS.

The story/singleplayer mode is one of the best games in the genre and while it's difficult to mod there are some fun mods like LSPD for singleplayer that let you play as cops or SWAT.

The official online gets a lot of hate but honestly it's not that bad these days. I only learned this when I started playing again recently, but last year they made some major changes that have reduced the frequency of griefers in public lobbies, as well as made some MASSIVE changes to the grind. You can now run just about any mission and heist prep on a private lobby, meaning you are effectively 100% safe from cheaters or random griefers when running these missions. This has effectively nullified most of the grinding as the only thing preventing you from farming gun running missions before was griefers, and you can easily get millions in a day for doing practically nothing through gun running missions, uninterrupted by players trying to kill you with jets.

Fun game, story feels way too railroaded and scripted for an open world game though. But if you can look past that the actual gunplay and missions are fine. This is also probably the last Far Cry game that will have a custom mission maker and map editor, and the tools are pretty robust all things considered. Not Skyrim-level modding tools but enough to do some cool stuff with.

Come back in three years when modders fix it, assuming we aren't forced to pay for mods by then.
