If you have having issues with Assassin's Creed freezing, put these IP's into your hosts file in windows.
216.98.48.53 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.18 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.57 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.133 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.134 127.0.0.1

This forces a local loopback on the DRM so the constant freezing doesn't occur whenever it tries to talk to the server. What a pain.
