Metal Gear Rising Revengeacnce

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is a fast paced hack and slash developed by Platinum Games, who are well known for their over the top and games with intricate battle systems such as Bayonetta, Vanquish and the recently released Nier:Automata.

STORY
The story follows the tradition of Platinum Games so don't expect any masterpiece, but the story is just good fun. Starting with Raiden Losing an arm he then receives many cybernetiic enhancements turning him into a badass cyborg ninja. Equipped with his trusty HF blad he takes of in revengeance against the group who took his arm eventually turning into a story about child brain harvesting and a metaphor for american evil.

GAMEPLAY
Unlike the games mentioned above Metal Gear Rising: REVENGEANCE does not feature an intricate combo list so if you are looking for a fast paced hack and slash with a intricate and long combo list this game is not for you. But don't let that hinder your choice to buy it, the game completely makes up for it. The game has two basic attack functions a fast light attack and a slightly slower heavy attack. The game is fairly short totalling around 5-6 hours long giving you a boss around every hour or so, and enemy types are introduced fairly reguarly each having their own unique moves and attack patterns. On regular difficulties the game is a rather easy only posing a challenge to those not understanding the game, but at the higher difficulties the game can be rather difficult with a few bullets removing most of your health. Apart from the two attack buttons raiden can also "ninja run" in which raiden runs at supersonic speed and deflects bullets with his sword at the same time is quite spectacle. One of the problems most people have with the game is with the parry mechanic as it is not explained very well, in short if you move the left stick towards the enemy and press the light attack button before the enemy hit you will block it, do it when the attack is even closer and Raiden will unleash a very powerful counter attack which is almost neccesary to know at higher difficulties as the amount of damage depends on the difficulty. The main gimmic and feature of this game is "blade mode" Raiden slows down time to a crawl and you can carefully disect enemies positioning where to slice with you're blade. Every enemy has a spot containing a big blue energy cell which raiden rips out of his enemies and crushes them while shouting a cheesy one liner. After every boss raiden recieves their weapon which adds more variety to the combat. The weapons are all interesting and unique but using a weapon discards the heavy attack limiting you're combo's with the normal katana. The animations do not flow as smoothly between the sword and and the extra weapons which feels very clunky and odd.
The level design is unique each level has it's own feel and atmosphere. From a sewer level to climbing a giant skyscraper the game is not short on interesting ideas.

CONCLUSION
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a flawed game, the combat is fairly simple, the story has plotholes unless you listen to hours of codec calls. But this is by no means a bad game. This game is so much fun and the things it does right. It does flawlessly. The story is hillarious, the combat feels good and is very fun. The action sequences within the game are amazing and physics defying. If you are looking for a fun game this is for you.
