Let us cut to the chase. There are two topics to cover in a review of Iratus. How much is it like Darkest Dungeon and is it any good?

It certainly shares a decent amount with DD. The narrative package is basically in reverse as you work your way out of a dungeon complex and in between fights there's a "town" improvement mechanic. So the minute to minute will certainly seem familiar. But it does lack DD's narrator plus the atmosphere and whatever else made it one of my all time favs. The connections just arent as meaningful. But don't get my intentions wrong - Iratus is still good. There are some components (mainly in combat) that are just as solid. Building your troops and the menus involved could be argued to be more streamlined than Darkest. Finally, depending on your POV - this could swing either way - the difficulty is noticeably lower than Darkest as well.

I enjoyed my time with Iratus - and at the time of this review - I have two more battles to go. This sub-genre has become one that gets my interests quickly and Iratus has held its own despite the inevitable comparisons.
