One of the fastest and most fun F1 games to play on a keyboard due to the extremely forgiving handling model. However, the game has no profile feature of its own and uses a faulty semi-dead service to keep your data. This makes career mode unplayable and options don't save. RIP you wonderful game.

Borderlands 1.5 suffers from a few problem I've noticed in some other franchises as of late.
  1. Make a great game
  2. Create hype for a sequel
  3. Make sequel but charge a lot for it since people will buy it based on previous games and hype
  4. Game feels like a robery when it doesn't match up to the hype

But lets look at things objectively and not trough our salty wallets. The game is good. Heck the game is great! It addresses and improves upon so many things:

Enemy scaling? It is no longer out of control so we've taken out Slag and replaced it with a much better element!

Have a lot of unneeded loot? Toss it in the gambler grinder and you might get something useful!

Mobility is tedious? Low gravity and sweet new vehicles make traversing the moon a blast!

Not to mention all the other additions! Laser weapons are amazing and fun, butt slaming is a blast, charecters knock it out of the park yet again this time with their own voice and personal responces from NPC's, the final boss actually feels like one (♥♥♥♥♥♥ Warrior didn't set the bar high to be honest), sweet new location to explore instead of being stuck in another part of Pandora, subjectively the best DLC mission to date and much more.

So what are the bad parts? Well as you might of guessed...
  1. The price - the game is bloody expensive compaired to it's predecessors. The base game alone will set you back 60 euros. In comparison Borderlands 2 GOTY which includes most of what you need in terms of DLC is WAY cheaper. Now an AAA game price tag isn't automaticly a bad thing even if the franchise was cheaper until now but what makes it hard to swallow is
  2. The length - the story may be nice and all but it clocks in at a much lower playtime than Borderlands 2 and even Borderlands. Combine that with the lack of DLC missions and you will find yourself finished with the game much sooner than expected. Which is sad but the only gameplay-related con has got to be
  3. Pickle. Oh my god, put me in a room with Pickle, my ex and Hitler, only armed with a gun and two bullets and I would shoot Pickle twice! I get the fact that they wanted to differentiate the moonfolk from the mainland Pandorians by giving them an aussie accent and it works and it's cute. Untill it isn't. This dude will be with you for a large portion of the game and each and every one of his words drives a nail into my eardrums. Why go to such an extreme!

So do I recommend the game? Yeah it was great even with it's flaws and despite not being Borderlands 3 I still enjoyed it immensly.

A great start for a great series. It lacks a lot of what the sequels can offer but underneath that dull exterior hides a lot of fun and good times to be had. Heck in some areas it's even better than the games to come from it, and I definetly belive you should experience them for yourselves.

The best charecter shooter I have ever played. It has everyhing - a great cast, both playable and non, amazing mechanics and abilities, tonz o' gunz, huge and breathtaking world and an amazing story to tie them all up. Oh and lets not forget the best and most charismatic antagonists ever! #teamJack

I had only played the Gold version before and now that I picked this gem on Steam for under a euro I can say - they are very different. At first I thought that the only difference is the lack of some campaign scenarios - mainly the one that starts at 1933 and gives you so much time to develop them unstoppable armies! But after I played one of the shorter ones I came to some conclusions:

  • the color palettes are a bit off and not so smooth on my eyes - easily changed in the Gold version
  • the infrastructure is VERY slow to develop - really 72 turns to upgrade one level? And I thought Gold taking 17 turns was slow.
  • HUGE maintenance costs! Why spend 1/5th of the campaign in upgrading a slot if in the end it will cost half your GDP to maintain? No such problem in Gold.
  • at first I thought "Why does research cost so little points? Now I can pump Heavy tanks before everyone else!" - yeah but no - research is compleatly RNG based so even at full IPU those 25 research poins can take 100+ turns to make...
  • all units have only one combat "value" which makes gameplay blunt as it doesn't matter what armies you build. In Gold each unit has Attack and Defense - this for instance makes infantry very hard to deal with and while tanks have huge attack power they are probably the first to fall in battle due to low defense.
  • a lot of other nitpicks that I could point out but they aren't that gamebreaking.

What I am trying to get at is this - there are a lot of balance issues with the game but chances are unless you've played the Gold version, you might not notice some at all and thats good. Just letting you know there is a better version out there that is currently not on Steam. That being said I still think this series is amazing.

I love towers. I love RPGs. I love cel-shaded graphics. I love pets. I love loot. I love the fact that this game exists. I love playing it.

Recettear, a heartwarming story of a cute, innocent girl abandoned by her father, who exploits broke adventurers to kill monsters so she can harvest their internal organs and sell them at a 30% markup.
