Look at my play time, do I even need to say anything? this game is amazing, it took me 3 years to get all the achievements, after a few pauses to play other games, and I enjoyed nearly all of it.

Its one of the best modern musous.

I dont usually make reviews, but I usually also dont buy indie games that are less than 10 hours long this flippantly, I saw one review (that one dragon guy, forgot the name) and something about its presentation captivated me like few games do, the gameplay looked nice but it was every aspect of the presentation that made me pull the trigger on it.

So lets instead start with the game itself: its good, maybe not great, but good, coming from titanfall 2 (which I love) and Doom Eternal (which I... dont love) this game tries to find a middle ground between the more character action side of boomer shooters with their crazy weapon swapping and resource regen on kills (headshots and other weakpoints being the killshot in this case) and movement shooters, from TF|2's wall running and slide hopping (simplified here to be less animation heavy and floatier, but also less abusable to gain height) and the slowmo jumps of Max Payne and FEAR, the end result is a game that is straight forward but has a relatively high skill ceiling, with clear cut controls and movement tech that is less about obscure mechanics (its pretty much just shotgun jumping) and more about mastery of the basic controls, which I appreciate.

The enemy variety is pretty good, for its short length it tries to have every single enemy type have at least one variant, barring a handful, so the only criticism i would levy is that episode 2 is obsessed with putting tanky enemies from ep1 as the rank and file, like if Doom 2 replaced all the zombies with chaingunners that had shotguns, and then also had a variant that had even more health on top of that, tho ep 3 seems to weirdly back track on that, going for a larger amount of weaker enemies, which I think is better.

As for the story, its good, but beyond the basic plot I feel I dont fully understand it, im pretty sure there is an unsolved ARG here which I cant begin to unravel, relating to the game's QR data pads and the achievement icon for them being a unique QR code.

And now back to the presentation, HOLY ♥♥♥♥ its as good as I hoped, all the guns feel satisfying and have distinct, creative designs and sounds, which the enemies share so its helpful in that gameplay way (the grenade launcher using a distorted Quake 1 GL sound was a nice touch) and the enemies all have unique siluettes that, despite reusing animations whenever possible, are not too hard to distinguish, not to mention be memorable.

The environmental art and music is the true standout here, varied, awe inspiring and a nice balanced of fitting with the setting and not getting in the way of gameplay, yes, this applies to both enviorment art AND music; weirdly though, it also applies to both of those things that there is a weird lull in variety in episode 2, which is a shame, but like I said before, the quality and variety picks back up in ep 3, even though its shorter than the previous 2 (could have used one more level, possibly with a mid boss IMO).

Overall, highly recommend, one of my GOTYs for sure, I dunno if i'd come back to replay it (unless the devs add achievements for the side modes, which i'd gladly come back to) but as a one time experience (plus 2 hours to get all the collectables) it was a fun ride.

EDIT: wow they are still updating this game, damn, also, someone please figure out that ARG, im too dumb for it.

I've literally bought this game on steam, despite having it on Origin for free, because I love this game so much that I wanted an excuse to play more of it and the achievements was a good one.

Also, its cheap as ♥♥♥♥, you can get hours upon hours of fun, 5x hours per dollar.

I knew i wanted this game from the moment I laid eyes on it, my beloved RE4 inventory made into a puzzle game, literally an idea plucked from my dreams.
And it delivered, its fun, it made me think in the same way the RE4 inventory made me think and it never felt unfair.
The only criticism i have is simply that its too short, but for the money i bought it for, its to be expected, however, this also means that i'd buy a sequel or a DLC in a heartbeat, and that im gonna go out of my way to 100% it.

DONT BUY THIS, Echtra lied to us all the way to the bank, they promised that they would stick to the game after the rocky launch, they didnt, the spring patch that was supposed to, at the very least, fix all the bugs, didnt ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fix them.

Its insulting to have been nostalgia-baited so hard, reassured that it was gonna be fine, give them multiple chances (3 in my case) and have annoying bugs that make the game hard to enjoy stay there for a full year.
