ABOUT Petition for adding Id titles to Linux market

Petition for ID Software titles on Steam for Linux.

This group is a petition for the adding of already existing ID softwares Linux titles to the Steam for Linux client. Every member of the group consents to the adding of those titles :
• Ultimate Doom
• Doom II : Hell on hearth
• Doom 3
• Quake
• Quake II
• Quake III Arena
• Quake IV
• Quake Live
• Wolfenstein 3D
All those titles have, already official Linux versions but not on Steam store.
This link will give you the proof, only Windows Games are on Steam even if there is Mac and Linux versions.
Ps : Quake I,II,III,IV, Rage, Wolfenstein has an official Mac version but not on Steam.

The adding of any of those titles to Steam for Linux would result from discussions between Valve and Zenimax/Bethesda.
So, to be more efficient, we encourage our members to write mails to Zenimax/Bethesda and write to Steam support (by creating a support account first).

Doom Eternal kernel level driver news
Doom Eternal update 1 PC security issue and more

Hello everyone,

After a more than a month since Doom Eternal was released, we now have important changes to be aware of on PC:

Kernel level driver

Doom Eternal is now forcing you to install Denuvo Anti-cheat or "DAC", which is kernel level. Even though I don't have much in depth knowledge about windows operating systems architecture, nor do we have access to Denuvo code (the whole thing is obsfucated), I still have pretty good theoretical knowledge about linux OS's and kernel vs userland (and since we are using Linux, you surelly do too).

Kernel Panics, Data loss, hacking ?

To me, the biggest problem with is the fact that the software is brand new and that it has bugs (like every software), which would lead to system crash...; also security issues will be found (the driver itself can still be reverse-engineered (we nowadays have strong tools such as: NSA's powerful ghidra tool[ghidra-sre.org] or even disassembly if one has the patience).

Data collecting

As for the potential intrusive data collecting process that could be done (surelly is done), it is to me not so worrying as the security risks (windows in itself, facebook, google... are spywares). With windows being an OS spyware in itself, every windows OS allready has a kernel level spyware. Nevertheless it doesn't mean that it's ok, since it is one more way data is collected and therefore one more entry point for data leaks... (has a data-science engineering student I get why companies need data, AI is nothing without it, I just feel like kernel level driver and potentially spyware for a singleplayer game is an unnecessary risk to take).

Game experience

This leads me to the singleplayer game experience. They are reports on FPS drops, slowdowns, game crashes and so on... (Note that Denuvo is apparently required to be installed for you to launch the game even offline; I already uninstalled Doom Eternal, so I could not tell).

Linux

Last but not least, the game is now broken on Linux.

A Brighter Tomorrow ?

Let's hope that Id will convince Bethesda to fix this at least for singleplayer mode. But let's not just hope, we can act towards it on social medias (twitter mentions on bethesda and Id), asking for refunds (I personnaly am way past the refund date), mailing customer service, negative reviews on steam are rising...

I hate to be "that guy", but this group doesn't stand a chance of swaying bethesda or anybody else, it would have to be at least 100x bigger

Yeah, I've always wondered why they don't sell the GNU/Linux versions of their games on Steam, when they were already ported years ago. Defies all logic. I guess ZeniMax doesn't like money?
