Space Haven

Beta 2. 0.21.0. Feedback
I was excited to try out the new station mode, but unfortunately I never got to play and after 15 - 20 or so attempts at generating new mapseeds, I have now instead reloaded my regular ship save.
( I would probably have attempted more times, if we had the ability to save the starting crew present, which have been requested so many times already, or we at least had the ability to copy and paste the map seed )

The reason for why I never actually got past the start is, you have given us this new big 3 x 3 asteroid to play on, and then you made sure to screw it all up and remove any desire I, as a player, would have to even try.

When you, the developers, design npc bases, you are very creative and build these big bases, with uneven shapes like for example a supply station. Or the farming station which consists of multiple buildings, or the mother of them all, the Baron station.

The point is, you design large, beautiful, interesting shaped bases.
Then why do you think we, as players, would enjoy building these cramped, inefficient and ugly looking pizzaboxes to get around all the crap you have placed in the middle of the asteroid ?
And just look around on these forums, most people enjoy building big ships and show them off.

When you add in the minable resources, the alien presence and all the hills, that 3 x 3 is actually very limited in space.
I get that you try to make it a challenge, but there is a difference between “can you do it” and “do I want too”

The easy fix would just be to clear out the hills from the middle section and give us a sizable plot to build on. But a better solution would probably be adding a way for us to clear out those hills over time, so you start out small and inefficient, but over time can grow into that large beautiful base.
Could be done with a “terraforming tech” allowing podminers to mine the hills, probably a slow and yielding no resources process, or some machinery placed close by, that over time flatten the ground.

Apart from that. Since you have been redesigning elements of the map generation, I also think you missed an opportunity by not adding some variety.
Perhaps one asteroid could have a beautiful green frozen lake of liquid hyperium. A tourist attraction throughout the galaxy, and so building a leisure station here, would make extra sense.
Or a “high density” asteroid, attracting more derelicts and smaller asteroids.
Basically things that would only have a small impact on gameplay, but add some variety from game to game.

Hi there.

As far as I am aware the minable resources will clear the space for building after it has been mined. (But I would remember it took a little bit of time after mining that the space was cleared, maybe 10-20 seconds or so, as it updates the surface map.)

I think it is the same for the salvageable resources (Wrecked containers etc.) but can check it.

The alien presence and claimable areas are there until secured and mining has been done on the resources. Then it should be clear for building on for the most part.

The hills are the ones that cannot be removed, but we can see if we can make a setting for it to be able to tweak their presence on an asteroid.

That would be great! Played around for a few hours today. Saved it right at the start and must have reloaded/restarted a half-dozen times because there's a LOT of hills (Medium difficulty) and I feel hemmed in. It would be nice to have a setting to make hills "uncommon" or "rare" or whatever.
@Naia000 if you're interested (or if anyone else is) ... seed 1993808964 is pretty flat! Lots of room to expand from the starting area. Just don't tell Aksel! :steammocking:
Thanks, I’ll take a look at it.

Because there are a lot of interesting new stuff in the update, I would love to try out.
Yes we need some open space to build how we want to.
I agree that there are too many hills. I wouldn't mind some of them, but right now it feels too crammed. So yeah, an option would be nice.
were the priorities touched or something? my crewmembers have been ignoring a hull breach for literally a week now and everything is supplied no problem, this isn't really new but it's still kind of annoying to see them ignore such a massive problem in the station/ship and not being able to draft a member to fix it.

we should be able to research stronger drills to remove the hills too.

Just had a similar experience. Microbreaches and fires get "emergency" action ... but a full blown hull breach seems like it's treated as an ordinary everyday construction task. While you can't just draft someone and force them to fix it, I was able to "expedite" matters by clicking on the builder pod hangar and manually assigning someone to do the pending "construction" task.

Hi!

Latest patch now allows drilling away the asteroid rock formations using a mining pod and Ore Processor. (The Ore Processor produces drills for the Mining Pod)

So they can now be drilled away for more building space. As a bonus they give some basic ore and exotic ore! =)
Awesome !!

Guess it will be a merry christmas this year, and you guys are gonna get a nice warm sweater or socks, and not just lumps of coal.

I could not agree with this suggestion more if i was paid to do so. This would be a BRILLIANT solution and add a great new layer of gameplay depth. PLEASE consider this suggestion. :8bitheart:

Thanks for this! I played the update before coming here. One thing I've noticed is that the Ore Processor is easily overwhelmed because station mode give you so much more raw ore than fleet mode. I am on Brutal level resources and I have too much with 2 ore processors, so I can only imagine the normal to easy modes.
