Anyway, either way, thank you.
I killed it and still no joy.
I will note if I try many times, eventually I will get into the game, but it won't go fullscreen with SK and I can play fine with the gamepad, but if I click in the window with the mouse the video temporarily locks up. I think its attempting to switch to fullscreen on focus and failing. If I alt-tab out and mess with the gamepad it starts responding.
Logs for that run.

No dice on this. When I lowered the refresh rate to 30 Hz I got my laptop and receiver to send the TV a full RGB 12-bit HDR signal: https://i.imgur.com/8LQu2Ld.png
This caused >Special K< to think it were running in HDR mode, but it actually weren't. It were still only outputting in SDR mode both in borderless window and exclusive fullscreen mode.

The inject metadata button didn't do anything either.
Here's the log from the latest attempt in exclusive fullscreen mode:

Also, the Steam Overlay swapped over to the Big Picture Mode overlay for unknown reasons whenever Special K thought it was outputting in HDR mode.
I'm having the same problem... I followed the installing steps and then, when I open the game and press Ctrl + Shift + backspace, I don't see that config window. However, the mouse do disappear and if I press the command again, the mouse comes back, but no "config window".
Ps: I'm not using any anti virus nor Fraps or any other third party software at the same time.

I know that version works, but everything's clamped into the range [] and that only goes up to about 100 nits. It's dimmer than SDR. I'll have to figure out how to unclamp and remove the tonemap to make that mode work.
I'll probably do that sometime this week,
