Yet this anti-cheat has a history of causing a ton of trouble for many games and gamers. So much so that some games outright removed/replaced this anti-cheat over the years it's been around. That its only being used by a number of freemium chinese/korean MMO's and some unknown indie multiplayer games should also give a (huge) red flag.
Some issues are also incapable of user-level games to achieve in terms of issues. Games dont usually go around and cause complete PC shutdowns or bluescreens unless there is a major memory leak present. And if thats the case, that can be easily tracked in the event viewer and patched out.
So in this case it's not unfair to attribute certain issues to the anti-cheat. Given their history.
However, the proof of burden lies on both sides in this case.
I don't trust Gameguard for several reasons:
1. Closing applications that other anti-cheats ignore
2. Not doing its job (tons of cheater videos)
3. Problems in the past
4. None of the games that use GG are very popular
I won't buy this game because of GG, but I won't make claims that I can't prove, because in the end they are a business too and I personally don't want to harm them in case they're not responsible, even though it's imho unlikely.

Domains it contacts appear to be valid though appear to have suspicious traits.
IP's it contact have malicious traits, but ultimately belong to MICROSOFT-CORP-MSN-AS-BLOCK, EDGECAST and Akamai International B.V. These are IPs that more than likely, host malware in other forms
GameMon.des is a dll util spawned by GGSetup.exe, and we expect this given the nature of this tool.

I am unsure what effects the loader has, as others have kind of reported, but at first glance analysis on the loader, it appears to do what it says and isn't *inherently* malicious, despite the more Sigma rules it violates as compared to EAC.
All good. I don't see you making any claims, but definitely don't let that stop you from stating your opinion. Just because you don't have proof of anything doesn't mean you aren't allowed to voice your concerns based on general consensus. Such as ... well... *gestures in the direction of the entire forum* ... that consensus.
Just like an anti-virus solution is spying on malware.
Or a firewall is spying on network packets.
Or Windows is "spying" on literally everything you do around the clock. Because otherwise it simply wouldn't function. "Spying", or otherwise known as monitoring, is an essential part of literally every application in existence.
It has the required permissions to tamper with your files. So in theory it can.
Yes, in some instances GameGuard continues to run if the game crashes.
And the game used to crash a lot. It's already significantly better, thanks to all the patches and also the new GPU driver that AMD released with fixes specifically for Helldivers.
GameGuard is a security solution that covers multiple aspects. Anti-cheat is only one component of it.
Helldivers 2 uses a peer-to-peer networking model. This comes with its own challenges security-wise. I addressed this in more detail at the end of this comment, please have a look.
It depends on the game. But generally speaking, the more harm you can do by cheating, the more cheaters are attracted. That's why games like Escape From Tarkov (BattlEye) and Rust (EAC) are literally infested with cheaters, because as a cheater you can cause a lot of terror to other players, which in many cases seems to be the primary motivation for these kind of people.
Both EAC and BattlEye are also kernel-level anti-cheat solutions.
Even the kernel-level solutions are already pretty bad at fighting cheats. No serious provider of anti-cheats would rely on non-kernel-level solutions these days because they would be utterly useless and no one in their right mind would pay real money for that.
How do they use exploits? Can you please elaborate?
Run gguninst.exe from the game installation folder.
If you really want to test it, you can download RKill from BleepingComputer (and only BleepingComputer as they developed it) and after you uninstall, run that. If RKill nukes GameGuard, then you know that post uninstall, it was actually still running.
I said this in another thread, but honestly, i think the safe option, if youve already installed and played the game, is when you close HD2, run gguninst.exe, verify its stopped, go about your day, and let steam reinstall it when you want to play. Tedious, but safe-ish
Kernal level programs are not acceptable for a co-op, 4 player game.
Yep. Anyone who can type into Google can find proof of this pretty easy - assuming they aren't being lazy and/or actually aren't looking to be convinced.
https://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2005-0295/
Well to be fair, it does protect the company when it has a micro-transaction store, DLC's and/or a live-service type of gameplay and community engagement. So I understand the necessity in this games' case. However, there are way better alternative kernel-level anti-cheats that protects your 'future investments' (ie: player wallets purchasing stuff on your store), doesnt screw up your players' gaming systems, provides some level of security, even if its not 100% (and can get updated when necessary when new cheating tools appear) and will not tamper with files, data or other stuff other than the game when only the game is running.
Vanguard and nPGG are the 2 worst examples currently in the gaming world in terms of kernel level anti-cheat.
Why do you take such issue with people demanding for some shady AC to be replaced with sth more trustworthy and with better history like EAC (as in Easy Anti-Cheat)?
Why do you have such problem with it that you take to the discussions and fight with people? Wouldnt you feel like you benefit if GG was replaced with EAC?
Like I would expect every reasonable person to be united on this front...
eac no better than gg? youre saying you trust greedy ass epic?
eac full of cheaters day 1 every game
so one terd better than another?
also, windows tracks you. so does google. its kinda the wrong hill to die on? if that makes sense.
not defending gg at all; this just the wrong target lol
edit: ever talk to someone IRL then get an ad 20 minutes later what you were talking about? but that gg is evil lollllll
I dont care about the "tracking" that much - like you said simply using Windows is one big tracking device
I can use iPhone and disconnect it from any internet access - it will still spy on me and send data
I really dont care that much cause I dont have the know-how and will power to play this "shadow citizen"
but since 2018 when I started playing Vermintide 2 and first got EAC - I didnt find it much bothersome - it is small and dosent seem to cause any stress to PC - so 6 years without any incidents - I find that personaly reassuring for myself
and about the EAC dosent work and cheats on day 1
so how do they stay operational? Why would anyone do bussiness with EAC if it was completely worthless - how can they sell it and keep the bills paid?
I'm so glad you're back, homie! I genuinely believe that this thread has and will make a difference.
so basicly you are telling me you cant answer the question without telling me you cant answer the question?
