The ♥♥♥♥'s your problem?
I can see how it might be taken as incendiary but it's actually an attempt to empower OP.
It shows a lot above him, that he think i would attack OP.
Its like fighting the Matrix and trying to break his chains... WTF Neo what is wrong with you?
Auti...: "Get the gun's ready and protect agent smith, he is the good guy." :D
Give a Man a Fish, and You Feed Him for a Day. Teach a Man To Fish, and You Feed Him for a Lifetime.
How dare that i even try to teach someone to learn fishing and break the dependency :)
I should put in court for even trying to help someone, while i get nothing back in exchange.
Don't want to put words in Kobold's mouth but what I think he's essentially pitching is that this is only going to get worse as time goes on, that this isn't an isolated issue and Linux ends up being a potentially universal solution to these problems if not here and now then in the long run. Looking at increasingly common trends both social and business-oriented, he wouldn't be wrong their either.
Fact of the matter is, the more people you can get away from these abhorrent practices, the better. That's how things change for the better and while it might be a hurdle for some, why not just start now to save yourself the trouble down the line. They do posses that option right now and it is indeed the only surefire solution in effectively dealing with GameGuard at present.
Despite all of this I still want GameGuard to just ♥♥♥♥ off and die or at the very least for Arrowhead to produce an updated statement that either comes out with some reliable information pertaining to the current iteration of GG and its implementation so we can more accurately troubleshoot these issues or they straight up say "No, ♥♥♥♥ you.".
Ideally, "Yeah, GameGuard is ♥♥♥♥ and we're removing/replacing it." but I'm not holding out much hope at this stage as they seem to be preoccupied with antagonizing their playerbase with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ memes which I mean hey I love my difficult vidya but no need to be unprofessional about things.
My PC has room for one more SATA drive so maybe I'll experiment with dual booting.
It sure says a ton about you.
The problem is, when everything works in windows, this rootkit and other rootkits working there too... and how this is played out, you see in this Anti-Cheat Forum from HD2 with damaged hardware and security holes, all over the place... they all work in Windows.
You are not to forced to kill windows instantly... and im sure there is a lot more stuff working in Linux that you are aware about it. Linux is well developed in the last few years.
Even if Linux can't cater to those niche elements you can do as you suggested and dual boot purely for those vidya games while your solution to ones like Helldivers 2 and further system security and solitude comes in the form of Linux.
He was just saying they're wrong for thinking the company is going to listen to them, not that the fault is solely on their end, just that they have the capacity to remedy the issue.
While I'd disagree that putting one's mind out there for the company to consider isn't worth it which wasn't said but might be implied as it at least shows others there are people with a different opinion to those loyal to the company and their products, in this case they're simply being realistic. That's all. No one is blaming OP for directly causing these issues, just that if they want a way out where there's a will there's a way.
Could he have been a little more lax about his approach? Sure. Is he of ill-intent? No, quite the contrary.
I put Linux Mint (Cinnamon) on a different partition on the same SSD where Windows is installed. 750GB Windows + 250GB Linux. If you install Linux Mint (Cinnamon) via USB, it basically install a bootloader for you, no need to worry about any of that. Heck, you can even leave Secure Boot on if necessary (for WIndows 11 its basically necessary due to some Nvidia driver loading BS).
Yes I've read about the dangers of Windows probably destroying the GRUB boot loader in a major patch.
No I have not experienced it yet and I delay massive windows updates with 2 years. Only security and other necessary patches. (Specifically I use Titus his debloat tool: https://christitus.com/windows-11-perfect-install/
And it works great! For now.
Cant run the latest 'official' Nvidia driver though, have to run version 535 instead of 545.
All games just basically "freeze" the screen upon boot.
As some have stated you can go buy a SanDisk external USB3/USB-C SSD and use that too install / boot Linux, i'm doing that right now with a system and its working speedy fine.
I'm currently running Kubuntu 23.10 on my systems.
If you want too you can go super crazy and VM Windows in Linux for apps you need Windows for without rebooting. Oracle's Virtual Box is a free/opensource VM system and easy to work with. System config apps for your hardware probly won't work in this manner so may need windows still for that. For Moden gaming you may need to do extra tweakings for the hardware to work in a VM.
Also Steams' Proton api can run a LOT of games with only minor tweaks. Just make sure you verify on the store Page that the game is "playable" for Steamdeck and that Linux/Steamdeck play isn't considered a violation of the TOS/TOU. Bungie with Destiny 2 (as example) flags that as such and will ban you.
