How about adding a tunnel in warp?
make it like eve online and the farther you are warping, the longer you stay in the warp. This would make a feeling of traveling and add huge immersion. :) Maybe every sector you go you stay in the warp like 5 seconds. Mean while the computer can be loading the sector you warped too.

Very nice Iedea! :)

I would not mind it as an option but I would not want it if you were forced to sit in this "warp" mode for no other reason than eye candy. Some of us have SSDs because we do not like waiting for new areas to load. It would be counterproductive to force players to sit there just to stare at some warp tunnel for X number of seconds because they are making a long jump.

No thanks, if you want to wait longer just close your eyes and wait. Some of us don't have infinite game playing time.

The warp idea is kinda neat, but not the additive time.
My current ship can warp 79 sectors. Aside from having to wait several minutes for the jump calculation time, the added 6 and a half minutes of staring at a warp tunnel would only serve as a remedy to my sleep issues, rather than adding anything particularly positive to the game..

Warp bubble neat, Time not.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about making the existing wait times use a warp tunnel instead of a loading screen... we already take longer to warp based on distance, it's just baked into the calculation time instead. I'd much rather have this.

Even if the OP were to be stating to replace the calculation time with this, it's still not a good idea. As things are, with the calculation time, you can set it, and then do other things while you wait for it. With this, you would eliminate that availability, and just have to sit there waiting, twiddling your fingers for several minutes until you arrive at your destination.
Calculation time shouldn't be replaced, nor should time in this warp bubble be dependent on distance. It would be as simple as replacing only the loading screen with a warp tunnel, and leaving it at that.

I have an ssd card too, but when its done loading if you want out you just press spacebar, because the effects like they are now are boring.

well... as far as I understand we are using hyperdrives, not warp-drives...

So if you want to keep me happy with this idea, then lets have some hyperspace experience instead of loading screens. Also it has always been a bit weird that Pirates attack strong sectors... Pirates should hunt weak ships, unable to escape fast, like Ships decelerating out of hyperspace... while due to being in hyperspace you have to solve mathematic multispace equations to lead your shots or they won't hit... a whole new game in the game... (especially referring to hyperdrive as in "Citizen of the Galaxy")

oh, and if we are going to see hyperspace, did I mention that sometimes hyperspace is described like beeing in a warp tunnel, while others even say that hyperspace will drive you insane if seen by the naked eye...

... insane.... harrarrrarr... glulb... insaaaaaaaaane

Honestly, the "calculation time" is just a time wasting mechanic as well. We all know there is really not path to calculate, it is merely a mechanic implemented in the game to give the player some sense of time needed to calculate some imaginary jump distance. It is just a time wasting mechanic and I would not mind seeing to go away either.

You can turn that spacebar pausing off in the options and know that you are not safe in that paused state either. Your ship has already spawned in the new sector, you just don't know it because you think the game is in between loading sectors but it's not.

Some warp effect would be neat. Even if it was just for a second.

There is currently an effect, it's sort of like a line with disolving light particles, but it's really subtle in first person so I like the idea of adding an effect. I think they could use the same effect when you go through a warp gate too, because that also feels very bland. You just hit the gate and dissapear.

I just want some visuals though, no added time really.

Yeah, I'm not sure you understand the mechanic in the game. He wants 5 seconds per sector travel time in this warp tunnel, that's adding time to the wait. The fact is right now I can set my jump destination and do other stuff while I wait for it to calculate/drive cool down, why would you want to waste time watching a fancy load screen?
Philonious Rex Mar 15, 2017 @ 12:00pm
Ya I don't think most people want more wait time needlessly, but I doubt any one would dislike a nicer visual effect added on.

The X series has a quick effect that plays, and you can turn it off in options menu. So that's one possibillity.
Hanzo Mar 15, 2017 @ 1:23pm
Oh I wouldn't mind a nicer jump animation.
