True, but its a block at a time, I was talking about the entire ship all at once, unless I missed that.
Hmm interesting. I'll check right now.
This is a great question. There is no way to reach internal blocks to individually upgrade them, I can't find a way to upgrade all. I know it would be a ton of resources and money, but it should be an option.
My thoughts exactly. You build this nice ship, but now you have to rip it apart to upgrade the internals. You can already select all blocks, might as well add the option of upgrading the materials used.
Alright so looking around and trying different things, I was unable to build a ship(currently in iron) into a different materiel. So yes a good implementation would either to be able to select which material to be used when applying plan, or select the ship after being built and then select the material. Either or. All I know is it is definitely something needed to help with the building process. Would be highly accepted.
1.Select your whole ship whith the box select tool
2.Select the normal select tool und Unselect the ship core (ctrl+left klick) (your core has to be exposed for this)
3.Press ctrl+c
4.Go into your block menu, hover over a free spot in the template menu (the green boxes)
Press ctrl+v
5.Make a new ship near your first ship go into build mode, select in the top right corner under template material select your desired material.
6.Select your ship in the template menu and press ctrl+v, now a ghostly version of your ship has appeared
7.Put your ship on the new ship core exaclty where the old one was (pressing the alt key and selecting a snap point helps.
8.Klick and see your new ship in its full new material glory.
9. Get your stuff from your old ship to your new one and destroy the old one by selecting all and turning off safe mode and then (pressing del)
After finishing it seek medical attention because if you have to do that 6 times you go insane...
I hope a feature will help us in the future.
Ctrl-C copy, go into block menu mouse over area with prefabs
Ctrl-V paste it
build new ship/turn ship into just core block, attach thin long piece to it
grab preset, select mat type at top of block menu
Q can rescale evenly, place at end of long block
turn off safe mode, delete core block and thin piece
Indeed. It's nice to be able to do this as it is, but it's many steps more than what you can already do in the shipyard (just select a silly material). I would also like to see a scaling in the Saved ships selection window instead of having to scale it all this abstract way.
The functionality obviously already exists within the game (shipyard).. Just need to add it to the build interface.
then when you go to make a new ship that blueprint will be there only a new material.. you still have to actually BUILD it but at leats you can convert the blueprint.
I'd personally like to see the ability to select all of a particular type of block that's in your ship (for example all the shield gen blocks) and change them to a different tier material. Personally, I'd prefer to keep all my non-functional blocks (edge, reflective, etc) as Trinium, because it's the lightest material, and keeps the overall weight of the ship down for maneuverability and speed.
