Correct me if I'm wrong, but the subtitles will be for the English localization. And that localization has substantial changes to the script. So you'll be listening to the Japanese voice actors while reading subtitles that don't accurately reflect what's being said.

I get not wanting to listen to the English voice actors (especially with the more grating voices, like Tidus), but the mismatch between the spoken lines and the localized subtitles ... dunno. Just makes it hard for me to want to implement the change.

Any direct translation projects out there?

You could play with German subs. The German manual says the subs won't sometimes match the english dub because they stuck close to the Japanese original script.

UnX v 0.0.2 Released (w/ FFX-2 and FMV language support)

I have released UnX v 0.0.2, which now lets you select (if you are not using one of the hex edited executables):

  • Voice Language
  • Sound Effects Language
  • Full Motion Video Language

If you're using one of the hex edited executables, none of those features work and you're stuck with JP audio language always.

I will add the original authors of this "guide" to the AUTHORS section of my mod when I eventually release the source code.

@Topher, ever considered Dropbox? Google Drive has reached a limit.
All the "cloud-sync"-services generally have severely limited-bandwidth, especially the free-user-accounts.
I'd personally recommend using "Mediafire" since it's the cheapest at the moment (~5$/month for 1-terabyte storage).

"Amazon Web Services" also have good offers too.

On topic: Awesome; I got nothing else to add at this point.

Is there a way to turn it back in case we want to?

Yes, do not use the modified executables. Use my mod instead. It fixes a bunch of other stuff too.

GitHub? That's where I store the source code for my mods.

No I meant the sound Effect Language thing. What's the difference?

I could not say, probably stuff like Moogles and such. There is a bank of audio files called SFX/jp_..., separate from voice and fmv. So for completeness sake, I allow you to pick the audio language for each type of sound.
I'm uncomfortable with the thread being hijacked, so I think I'll just keep using the modified .exe's
Hijacked? Someone just asked if there was a way to turn the stuff back off, which is why I brought it up in the first place.

My project pre-exists this by the way.

Originally it was to fix cursor management and DPI scaling, I've since added the audio language selection to it so that you don't have to screw around with executables and scramble for a solution when Square Enix patches the game.

what exactly does your mod do ? couse really only the audio is the one im concerned about.
would kinda be bad download a mod that does more than the audio
or you have toggles for everything ?

  • Hides the cursor
  • Fixes DPI scaling
  • Adds a PSN Trophy Sound on Achievement Unlock

Fixes whatever else I find is broken in the game.

No, there are no toggles. You can configure everything from the INI file though. Toggling audio language while the game is running is probably a disaster waiting to happen.
