Erm I think you posted the right answer to the wrong question
i have got the same issue as well , i simply reverse the trailer just goes in a mad way not intended , also cant reverse stright back either, does it have to do anything with everything being auto and steering auto center. I have no problems reversing to park in ets 1

I drove semis for real and while earning my commercial license it took me quite a bit of practice to master simply backing in a straight line. Learning to put a trailer into a parking space was a bit harder. The number one mistake that people make in real life, and I'm assuming in game as well is over correcting. I'm using a gamepad at the moment and it causes me to have a tendency to over-correct. As you are looking in your mirrors and attempting to back straight you want to see your trailer equally on both sides. If your trailer starts to swing out to oneside, turn your steering wheel in the direction you are seeing the trailer move to. Once you start to master straight line backing other maneuvers will come easier. Learn to work with your mirrors, I never step out of the cabview and to be honest have no idea if I could slide a trailer into a spot using an external camera. The good news is the game mimics real trailer behavior fairly well so if you understand how to do it in real life, doing it in game is a piece of cake.

Ah, cheating ;) I use the cabin view at all times, and no cheat mirrors either :D
But then again, I am using a Logitech G27 :P

TrackIR is another great tool. I wouldn't know about using a top down view. When I first learned to park a trailer there was only the "cabin view." I'm basically adapting real life experience to game situations and using an XBox controller instead of a wheel(at least for now). Have you checked the guides section to see if anybody has done one on this topic?

It won't park like a passenger car. Most of the time, you should be at a complete stop, completely moving your wheel one way or the other before applying any gas. Then you go very slow and line it up as well as you can. It's still tricky. Personally I just skip self parking because it takes too long and the EXP awards aren't worth it. I'd rather be driving than inching along in reverse for 15 minutes.

agree. when i startet playing i had the camera from outside turned on, and after a lot of parking i now stay in the cockpit and only uses mirrors.

It takes some practice, but lining up properly beforehand (most loading docks will let you get fairly straight) and using the mirrors will get you there. I've driven trucks in real life, and it's not easy to back up in a straight line, much less turn, but practice and you'll figure it out.

Best way for me is using view 5 which is looking backward out the window, but also showing the steering wheel position, since I steer with the mouse. Still pretty easy to do even without a wheel.

The fifth wheel(the method the truck and trailer connect) is what makes reversing in a semi so tricky.Becuase of it when you reverse you must turn the wheel(and truck) the opposite direction from the way you want the trailer to turn.

So if you want to make the trailer go left you must turn the wheel towards the right and vise versa at the same time you have to go very slowly and make corrections as you back up.If you start going off you should stop and pull fowards so the truck and trailer are in line(more or less) with each other then start backing up again.Slow backing and small wheel adjustments are key.

I agree with the 5 head out the window view being the best mode.

You also do not have to perfectly nail the outline so long as you are generally inside the pattern once you get the entire trailer over the patttern it will trigger.

At least you have cheat views in a real truck you only have mirriors though in very tricky spots a spotter would help.

Pro tip: you do not have to anywhere near perfectly inline with the parking spot to make it once you get the hang of it.

Another idea try backing up on the side that you are used to driving on in real life.So if you are from the UK.Australia,or such and are used to driving on the right side pratice in a right hand drive truck in the game.(any truck that you own can be converted to right hand drive via upgrades)

I use the cabin view at all times when backing the trailer. I have to admit, when I first started playing, I had to use the external views and found it a nightmare trying to straighten the trailer up to fit in the parking space. It took some practice to get hang of it but now using my correctly set up Logitech DFGT, parking is easily one of the most enjoyable parts of the deliveries and something I look forward to every time. I just wish the reward would be higher.

I recommend taking short jobs (within a city) for a while. That way you will get more practice without "wasting time" to sooner or later figure out how it works. Most importantly, remember that the trailer will turn in the opposite direction to the way you turn the wheel. Turning the wheel to the right will turn the trailer to the left. And, turning the wheel to the left will turn the trailer to the right.
