Game Issues
If you're having issue with your game and are looking for community help please create a new topic and be sure to include the following information in your first post to help speed up support.

Game Log File: This is the most important part of any request for help. A full unedited game log is often be the primary tool to help diagnose an issue.

Game Crash File: Only devs can really read these, however there is often helpful hints included that we may be able to spot. So if a crash log is created do please include it.

Both of these files can be found in the Euro Truck Simulator 2 in My Documents folder of Windows and are named "game.log.txt" and "game.crash.txt".

(If a user can let me know the appropriate locations for MAC and Linux I will update the post.)

Please use a host like http://www.pastebin.com/ or https://rentry.co/ to paste your logs (in some cases you may need to split the files into two).

Description of the Problem: Whether it's something simple like missing textures or something more serious like a crash, the more information you can give the better understanding we will have.

In the case of crashes, we need to know what you were doing at the time eg: Are you driving in a specific location or is it more random? Is it happening in the job selection screens, the garage manager, truck/trailer purchasing?

Mods or Vanilla:

It will help if you tell us straight up whether you have mods or not. The most common issues posted here end up being mod related. So please do include the following tags at the start of your post or in the topic title:

Mods In Use: Self explanatory, mods are currently being used in the game.
Mods Not In Use: Mods have previously been used on this profile, but none are currently active.
Vanilla: Mods have never been used on this profile.

On a Mac the ETS2 folder is in your Library and there in the Application Support.
On Linux the ETS2 folder is in the .local and there in the share.

If you are not quite familiar on how to post and share your game log and crash log file, here's how:
  1. Right after the crash, open "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2" folder on your PC and locate game.log.txt file. Open it with a text editor (e.g Windows Notepad).
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3397787458

  2. From within a text editor, select the whole content and copy it to the clipboard.
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3397788925

  3. Open your browser and visit https://pastebin.com/. Paste the log's content (no need to create an account). If the clipboard content too big for one session, split it into several chunks and repeat this procedure.

If PasteBin is not available in your country, please use similar services such as http://rentry.co/. Mostly they work just like PasteBin.

To create a link to the content in PasteBin, just click "Create" button. Make sure you set your submission as public. After created, be sure to copy the link in the address bar into the clipboard.
    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3397789374

  4. Paste the link to your post in this thread. If you have to split the content into several chunks, make sure all links are provided with proper order.

Please do the same if you also asked to provide the content of game.crash.txt file.

Split Large Log File
Some website that provides service to store and share plain text (such as PasteBin) has maximum accepted file size. If you are in a situation of your submitted plain text has been rejected due to exceeded file size limitation, you may consider to use tool or online service that provides ability to split large plain text files into several chunks (pieces) based on maximum file size per chunk.

Here some example of tool and web service you may try, although they are many others that provide the same functionality by finding them through search engine to suit your needs and your platform support.
  • Split File Online
An online service that provides ability to split file into several chunks by file size. They accept almost (if not all) kind of file, but this gives disadvantage where your log file will not truncated by line because source files are treated as binary.

    Website:
    https://pinetools.com/split-files

  • File-Splitter (Windows Tool)
Another tool that can split plain text and log files by file size per chunk. This open source project is comes with GUI app (based on C# and NET framework) and console app for advanced users who prefer working with command line parameters.

    Project URL:
    https://github.com/dubasdey/File-Splitter

  • GSplit (Windows GUI App)
A rich featured tool to split plain text and log files amongst other file types. Able to split based on file size per chunk.

    Download URL:
    https://www.gdgsoft.com/gsplit

  • Split Command (Linux Git Bash Terminal)
If you have Git installed on Linux, use split command on git bash terminal using -b parameter argument to split plain text or log files by file size. For example, this will split example.txt file into 10Kb chunk:

    split example.txt -b 10k

Profile not working after game update?

Here's a little step by step guide that in the vast majority of cases will get your profile working again if things go haywire when major updates and changes come to the game.
Most issues and crashes are related to the contents of mods that are no longer supported (e.g. compatible) with the new game version. Things like mod trucks, trailers, accessories, amongst other things.

To get your profile in a working condition again, follow these steps:

1 - rollback to the game version where your mods still worked (the version that you just left when upgrading the game).
To do this, go to steam library -> rightclick game -> properties -> betas -> choose version.
note: this most likely will start a download for the old(er) version, let it finish 100%.

2 - when the download is done, start the game, activate the mods again if necessary, then continue career to see if things work again.
note: From here onwards, I'll just assume it won't crash because the mods should be compatible again at this point.

3 - while in the game, remove(sell) every single modded item you put in the game: vehicles, trailers, horns, light accessories, buildings, pedestrians, billboards, camels, polar bears, penguins, everything. no exceptions.

4 - after this little clean-up, go back to mod manager so that the clean-up of your game will be saved to your profile.

5 - in the mod manager, disable each and every single mod. all of them. again, no exceptions. yes, that one too.

6 - exit the game and go into steam library. we got some work to do here.

7 - rightclick the game -> properties -> betas -> choose opt out of all betas (e.g. come back to most recent game version).

8 - steam will start another download, this will be your new version. so let it finish 100%.

9 - just for double-checking purposes, after this download, rightclick the game -> properties -> installed files -> verify game integrity. same as with the download earlier, let it finish 100% to make sure all downloaded file are correct.

10 - after verification is done, start the game, DO NOT enable mods, just click Continue Career and see if things work now.
note: do one or two short jobs or quickjobs to verify if everything works correctly.

If things work again (and I assume they will), then things are up to you at this point.
If you want to use mods again, by all means, just keep in mind that it will be your own responsibility now.

When you do, make sure to check the following:

- game version compatibility (usually found in the mod description or the mod info text on the website you got it/them from). if no version is given, then assume the mod will not be compatible.

- make sure you download only from trusted mod sites (steam workshop being one example). 3rd party website are entirely your own risk and responsibility. ad-blockers and pop-up suppressors are highly recommended for this.

- keep in mind that when using the mod manager in the game, the mod manager DOES NOT check version compatibility unless the creator specifically built the mod to have this checked. it only enables or disables mods.
