Options -> Gameplay. Pull the "Detours" slider all the way to the left. Problem solved.
Alternative there is a mod that gives you longer delivery times you can use, just in case the alternative route is too long.
Personally I have mod for more traffic / better AI and since I like to take my time and view the scenery I use the below mod (plus version). I like the accidents and detours so I keep these on, however I have my detours setting down to about 5% so I don't constantly get them.

But as others have mentioned, there will be no more detours for future jobs if you drag the slider all the way to the left.
Ahh OK, thanks for that. I never had mine turned off so never had the issue. I know for traffic you can remove them with console g_traffic 0 and back to 1 when there is a crash and won't sort it self out which I've used, just assumed detour might be the same :)
Guess OP has to live with them, or turn them off completely. then.
Glad you finally got there. As for the only route, Couldn't you have tuned south down M6 to brimingham or north up M6 to carlisle, then across at that point to the M1 and head into Sheffield from the M1 ?
I do have promaps on but I'm sure those paths are still viable in original.
You are supposed to open the Map and find your own alternate path. You can not rely on the GPS to find your alternate route for you.
When you see the police block with its cones and maybe a fire fighter vehicle, set an "avoid waypoint" on the blocked road section and review what the Route Advisor advices. Correct as needed and desired.
The police blocks the exit for a reason. Do not enter. Just like in real life.
Based on "the M62 between Liverpool and Sheffield is closed" without more detailed information where your truck is and where the accident is, I tested with my truck in Liverpool and a route to Sheffield with an "avoid waypoint" (simulating the blocked road). I got routed via Birmingham. A quite normal detour in this game I would say.
