How does the online multiplayer work in this game?
What do you do in it?

Go to the SCS Blog and read all about it.
I have not tried it yet but I hear it's better than TruckersMP.

You do the same in it as you do in singleplayer, just with other players.

Mods, AI, all the same. You can take the same jobs as your mates. You can have up to 8 players in a lobby, with up to 70 mods currently. Mods must be exact, same size, same load order, same name.

Just press the Convoy button on the menu once you are loaded into your profile.

As stated above, it plays much the same as single player but you can see others on the map with you and drive together. When one person takes a job, so long as the others have required skills unlocked and DLC installed, they can sync that job to their games from the one who took it, and take it themselves too. Or you could just find different jobs going to the same city and each haul your own thing, but travelling in convoy.

It means you can drive online (joking).

You can join other servers to drive. But you don't actually drive with them. It's that you know there are up to 7 other real players driving around. Of course you can drive together with your friends. Or you just join stranger's sessions to feel less alone.

Others have already told you about it.
There are also videos where you can see how others drive in convoy.
I also once experimented a little with it myself, which you can see here:

Nice video Briannospam :)
I havent tried the convoy myself. A lazy question wich I probably could answer if I was at my gaming machine - Do you need to push a button to talk or is it sensible to voice?

It depends on which communication medium is used.

Both text and voice communication are built into the game, and you have to press a button to speak, or at least you had to 2 years ago.

We used an alternative medium called Discord (which many probably know), and there you don't have to press a button to talk. :)

Ahhh, then I understand. I have never used Discord (I know though what it is) I used to use Teamspeak back in the days when I was competing in Simracing. Same idea though.
Thanks for clearing this up for me.

BTW: I forgot to mention:
As far as I remember, the game's built-in text function cannot be used while driving, but only while the truck is stationary, which I think is very reasonable, and a good thing.

TruckersMP has No AI Traffic what makes gameplay absolutely borind.
No road events, just you and empty roads with very rare players on your way

That is another way of multiplayer. The people above were talking about tie in-game multiplayer feature called Convoys.

Depending on the host's settings it may have AI traffic in Convoys. Not sure if random road events works at all in a multiplayer environment, be it the in-game Convoys or the 3rd party TruckersMP.

If it is boring or not? well that's more a personal opinion than a answering the OP of what one can do in multiplayer.

Road events work well in the game's built-in convoy option.
in the video I posted earlier in the thread, at 6:22 you will see that we come to a place where an ai truck has been stopped by the police, and at 10:52 we come to a roadworks blocking one of the motorway's 2 lanes.

When I last had road events enabled in Convoy/TruckersMP, they were never synced correctly between players. Sometimes only 1 player would have the event. Which causes problems in a multiplayer environment, so I've had them disabled ever since.
