Does truck matter for hired AI drivers?
Let's say I assign the cheapest and weakest Iveco truck to one of my AI drivers, will they experience the same kind of difficulties I would experience when driving a 25T cargo with a truck that has only 320 HP? Will the truck affect income/driver performance?

Originally it didn't matter no, but I do know it was changed a while back so that engine power made a difference...more powerful engines allowed them to bring in slightly bigger profits.

As far as I'm aware that's the only factor, and everything else is irrelevant (but I've been away from the game for a bit so if additional changes have been made in that area someone may correct me).

Surely all they need is a rear view mirror ornament and they can haul anything?

Don't forget the racing stripes.

Someone here made a very elaborate test earlier this year. So there is a difference, but the conclusion is that it is close to neglible in its effects. Just give them what you like - with some drivers on the payroll money soon won't matter anyways.

In short, no. They don't struggle at all, they do not exist on the road so the most stripped down, cheap truck will works. In the beginning go wide (more trucks more drivers) and only much later, if you want, go high (better trucks). Here a read for "later" ; )
