Why am I always late?
I always play with rest periods on and do not wish to turn it off. I always take the route provided by the GPS and I take my rest periods when the meter is red, yet for some reason, on long trips I usually arrive late. What am I doing wrong here? How do I fix this?

Driving in the "outside" lane? Outside is the breakdown strip
Here in the UK we refer to the lane closest to the median as the outside lane (ie. the rightmost lane, because we drive on the left) and the 'breakdown strip' as the hard shoulder
MirkoC407 7. okt. 2022 kl. 1:47
Okay, and here in Germany we do it the other way round. Outer lane is the standard lane, inner lanes are the overtaking lanes (because they are to the median, which is usually most inside of anything that has one) and the breakdown strip is exactly called that.
A hard shoulder (befestigter Fahrbahnrand, translating to "reinforced roadside" literally) would be a shoulder of asphalt, cobblestones, etc. but too narrow to actually park a broken down vehicle on it. A soft shoulder (unbefestigter Fahrbahnrand / non-reinforced roadside) ends right after the outer marking in gravel, sand or soil. So we all can learn foreign languages while discussing game issues.

I've noticed in the past that the term 'outside lane' (or indeed 'inside lane') seemed to cause confusion om these forums and the SCS ones, and therefore had assumed that other parts of the world referred to these things differently. Always interesting to learn about such differences.
crazy rocker 7. okt. 2022 kl. 18:38
normal lanes r called the inside lane next to the hard shoulder. middle lane is for over taking. outside lane should only be used to overtake slower vehicles in the middle lane. but al vehicles should stay in the inside lane unless overtaking or coming up to an on ramp where al vehicles should move into the middle lane to allow vehicles coming on to be able to merge in.
Minimum speed limit on the motorway in the UK is 50mph unless slow moving trafic in front forces u to go below 50mph or bad weather conditions or a speed limit sign says lower like at roadworks.. u can actualy get fines for going under 50mph on a motorway.
But that IRL not the game.
But each country has its own rules. and words for the lanes. im going on UK roads and what i was told for Germany when i was there in the 80s with the army. As back then Germany had basicly the same rules as the UK did.

Minimum speed limit on the motorway in the UK is 50 mph
there is no MINIMUM SPEED on a UK motorway
🦊 Hermit 8. okt. 2022 kl. 7:42
You're both right, to a degree. There isn't a blanket rule of 50 across the country, but there can be certain minimums enforced in some areas, and you can get in trouble for going too slow.

Minimum speed limits are rare in the UK, but they do exist in places where going too slowly can cause increased congestion or high risk of a crash, such as in tunnels.

They’re marked by a blue, circular sign containing the minimum speed limit, while the end of a minimum speed limit is signalled by the same sign with a red diagonal line through it.

Although there isn’t an official minimum speed limit on most motorways, travelling too slowly can be considered dangerous and you might attract the attention of the police.

In this case, you’d usually be let off with a verbal warning, but you could be prosecuted for careless driving.'

I remember seeing a traffic cops episode several years ago where they pulled over a guy for driving 30 on a motorway. They didn't fine him or prosecute, but they did ask him to speed up a little (to 'whatever speed you feel comfortable with', to which the guy said he would be willing to try 50 but would never go over 60). I think the main reason they were concerned was if the guy was drunk, but safety for other road users was a factor too.

its why some vehicles r not allowed on motorways. like the old invalid cars they could only do 50 max and they were not allowed on the motorway cause they were doing less than 50. Thye might of changed the rules but it used to be minimum of 50. but back when the M1 was 1st built they had no minimum or maximum speed. the speed limit was bought it due to so many deaths even though not many accidents. after the speed limit came in less deaths but a lot more acidents.
same in Germany when no limits a lot less accidents but more deaths due to the high speed. Its why germany has variable speed limts. when not a lot of traffic on the autobahns no speed limit for cars. but in bad weather and high traffic they put speed limits on. or they did when i was based in Germany with the army in the 80's. we could drive as fast as we wanted even in trucks.

It doesn't matter how long you have left on your sleep timer. The game will always give you enough time to complete the job being offered. I have taken jobs that were more than 55 hours of driving and needing to sleep 4 times and still had time left before I would be late.

What may kill you is taking an Important or Urgent job requiring one or more border crossings in the Baltic or Black Sea DLCs. While the game gives you enough time to drive and take sleep breaks, it does NOT compensate for delays at border checks or slower speeds and traffic on small roads and in cities/towns.
Okay, I finished this run with 11 hours to spare. It was a standard run with two rest periods and I did speed a bit. So how do I go about arriving on time with an "urgent" job? What should I do differently?

For Urgent jobs, I simply don't take them if they involve crossing any border control points in the new DLC areas. Those delays coupled with the slower speeds on their smaller roads are just asking to be late on time-sensitive jobs. Going anywhere else? Not an issue and just drive like I normally drive. There just isn't any extra pad-time to take a detour to get unexplored road segments. ;)

look at the time remaining on the job before taking it in the market. they have expiry times on them closer it is to the expiry time the less time u get to complete the job. Even with urgent jobs u should still have plenty of time to do them unles u have a short expiry time to start with. ive taken urgent jobs from London to Instanbul and made it on time. Even with a detour that took me 200 miles off course cause of a road closed i stil made it with about 1 hr to spare. only been late once and that was cause there was a road closed right outside where i picked up from and it was the only road out of the place so couldnt even get out the the place i picked up from. so had to make my own road by doing a bit of off roading to get round it. plane crashed on the road and blocked 2 lanes and a chopper blocked the 3rd lane and hard shoulder so no way past it. so reversed up and found a dirt track and went that way. not on the map hidden road but it got me round it. but added about 3 hrs onto the trip and made me 30 mins late.

It was before i got the Italia DLC and the pickup was in Italy base map and the road junction was blocked going south cause i didnt have the DLC to find my way round it that way. only took that job cause it was the last section of road to get pathfinder. fliping detore ruinded that lol.

expiry times r not how long u have to complete the job in the jom market but how long u have to pick up the cargo after u take the job. so if it says 1 hr it means u have 1 hr to get there before the job is gone so the job wont be there when u get there if u take longer than the expiry time. had it a couple of times where i didnt pick up the cargo fast enough and was wondering why i couldnt hook up the trailer. the job expired between the gate and hooking up so missed it by a few secs.

So take jobs with the longest expiry time and u get longer to deliver it.

if you have the gps showing speed limits in MPH and you want the dash to read MPH aswell you will need to install the Uk cab setup in the truck dealer. if you don't feel comfortable with right hand drive go into your game settings and change the settings to show KPH on the GPS to fall in place with your dash settings.
Ryu 9. okt. 2022 kl. 10:49
The job expiration time is not tied to the delivery time. Expiration time is simply when the job will be removed from the job list; nothing more. You will want to pay attention to the expiration time when looking at jobs that are outside the local area since a soon-to-expire job may not be there after you make the long drive out to pick it up. ;)

think u can only get the right hand drive trucks with MPH dash in the UK truck dealers. if u get them from mainland truck dealers they will be left and hand drive and KPH. UK dealers do left and right hand drive. but the left hand drives will have KPH not MPH. So for MPH u need to use settings to set it to mph on the sat nav. but that can be confusing as the speed lmit signs r in KPH on the mainland. also u have the prob with how far to go as the road signs will be in kilomertes and satnav will be in miles.
So unless u drive in the UK and nowhere else ur beter off having everything set to KM rather than miles.

UK dashboards tend to have mph and kmh on the speedos Euro dashboards only have KMH. not sure of the exact numbers but its somewhere around 4 km per mile 3.7 or something like that. 50 KMH is 31 MPH. So using kmh it seems like ur going faster and further cause of the higher numbers.
Its confusing if u have never driven outside the UK. same if u have never driven in the UK. probably worse for non UK drivers coming over as their speedoes wont have MPH on them. UK dash will have big numbers in MPH and smaller numbers in KMH.
🦊 Hermit 9. okt. 2022 kl. 11:34
On the MPH/KPH debate - setting your units to one or the other will also affect the digital cruise control displays on your dash, regardless of whether the truck is left or right hand drive.

I have my homebase in the UK and my satnav set to display MPH because it's what I'm used to, but I use a left hand drive truck because I spend most of my time in other countries. But my cruise control still shows MPH, so when driving I can just line the CC up with what my satnav says and not have to worry about converting the speed units at all. If you have the CC increment up/down buttons set and a transmission with a retarder, you can even control your speed entirely on the CC system and barely have to accelerate/brake except in emergencies.
