Why does my truck only go 40KM/H?

Heya!

I just started playing and even in 6th gear my truck only goes around 40KM/H. Is it just because I started and have a bad starting truck? or do I need to do something.. (speed limiter is unchecked) pretty silly to go over a highway at a rocking 40KM/H :D

What truck and cargo do you have and importantly what is the terrain like?

Since you say you're a beginner, I can figure out you do not have one of the strongest trucks. :)
- It comes with time (if you want it), as you earn exp and the money it costs to get stronger trucks. :)

But: There are uphill places on the map where even the strongest trucks do not get far down in speed if they pull very heavy loads uphill.

On reflection ... I do not think any of us 3 are right in our assumptions.
For my own part: No matter what truck and cargo it is about, you should be able to get up to at least 80 kmt out of level straight road, and since you do not drive uphill all the time, you must assume that OP also has the problem on plain straight road.
- Besides, as a beginner, it might be a quick job where you borrow a truck you can not configure yourself.

You get a warning about handbrake if you try to start with the handbrake on and can not start driving until the handbrake is released ... I do not know if it is possible to continue driving if you apply the handbrake while driving?

However, @Words.exe thinking about the retarder could perhaps be the cause if OP uses cruise control and has set this to 40 kmt.

But otherwise ... maybe mods?
In any case, it is difficult to guess as long as OP does not provide more detailed information. :(

brake hard to a full stop, it's a tiny bug. Should be normal again once fully stopped.
or reload your game, somethimes the limit will not reset and get stuck.

Alright! I just played without my steering wheel and it would seem that the problem is that my shifter only has 6 gears (didn't know trucks had 12 gears xD)

Thank you all for your help/suggestions, I will try to bind gear 7 to 12 to my keyboard or look for a better shifter! ^^

Haha no man. You need to set up the right splitter button in the game options. Trucks are diferrent than cars.

trucks only have 4 gears on the shifter. so you need to get a 4 gear layout and a split range key. maybe a video of a truck driver explaining the shifter of a truck will help you
