What you want to avoid is fishing near rocks. If a fish gets near a rock sometimes the game freaks out and it will just start moving back and forth rapidly for no reason.
Outside of that, just be patient and do the inputs and you should be fine.
Yeah, core problem: Even when you understand all that, it's still immensely tedious and time consuming compared to everything else in the game. Some of the locations whoppers spawn in also have rocks or other debris that you can't possibly avoid, so they'll snap the line as soon as they rush behind it; you might as well not even try to hook them in those locations.
If you don't like the fishing, maybe don't do the fishing? Its not like it unlocks anything all that great.
I don't know what to tell you I have never had an issue with the fishing after learning how it worked. Fish starts moving towards debris then you just spend some tension to move it the other direction and proceed as normal. If its in a bad location you cast out into a better location and bait it in that direction, pull the rod and recast until its in an area you like.
Its fishing, its not some action packed super exciting adventure.
Patience and repetition are literally what fishing is.
I guess its the fact that getting the fish to bite is a bit of a guessing game at first (which lure they like, how much you gotta jiggle etc) and once they bite, if the line break its crushing lol anyway I was holding R2, maybe that's my mistake
Can't SEE the the damn fish I'm supposed to work with when seikret SITS on you.. Nor when Alma decides to go splashing in the fishing area.
If you're in doubt what lure they like use the default lure. Most things will hit it once you get their attention, it'll just take a bit longer. Buddy of mine caught the squid on the default lure. But yeah don't hold R2 down. You only press R2 to set the hook, and to make sure it doesn't come loose when its jumping.
True that, Alma and the lizard certainly are not an anglers friend.
