Otherwise i love both rise and world differently
MH4U>MH3U>Rise>World>Wilds>>>>>Cross>>>>Double Cross
I've played a few others but they were psp and ps2 games
Rise was best so far - but we have not seen the full Wilds yet. Only with the addon we can be sure, like back then when Icebourne blew my mind.
It has all the foundations for such a rise (pun intended) to the top of the ranking (except to those with chronic nostalgia/rose-tinted glasses). And i say this as someone who has been playing since MH Freedom (Unite is where i spent the most hours with World being second place) which is the portable version of the first game in which LS was not a weapon type yet.
QoLs, streamlining of various mechanics while still keeping some complexity, letting you eat wherever, proper move forwards from the yucky claw tenderising mechanics, better skill mechanics, better deco grind, layered armour version crafted upon any HR armour crafted, an actual reason to go hunt tempered monsters beyond difficulty (and fun), a moving quest board (which sometimes needs to be chased down), very lively world (pun not intended this time) and fun distractions like fishing the big fishes.
rise was a fun power fantasy, but lacked any challenge
wilds is promising, but too easy. if they step it up with title updates and the expansion it could take the crown.
best monster hunter overall is generations ultimate imo
wilds has potential and I really like some of the new monsters, but it's held back by some weird design choices, like how focus mode completely breaks every melee weapon and makes the game a joke. Monsters just weren't designed to fight a hunter that can circle strafe them the entire fight and still be outputting full damage combos. Performance is also a serious issue for a lot of people that can't just brute force the game with money.
while Worlds I had hundreds of hours before finishing or getting bored.
