After savage axe mode my goal becomes to get overcharged, then a (full circle) or (B) combo until he does the back twist swing from the first charged hit. then i SAED.
pumps out big numbers.
It's still fun to use, but you kill faster with other weapons.
-Sword counterattack/AED head sniping style exists and is strong. Fishing for perfect guards in neutral is very similar to fishing for raw GPs in MH4U, where you can't guard early and still GP.
-Axe can be played as main mode with evasion style, which gives vertical reach and faster access to big attacks but suffers for mobility; tends to be more worthwhile for monsters that don't have punish windows after guarding and have openings when you get behind/under them during attacks.
-SAED can be real, but only for elemental or when you really really want the burst KO damage at the cost of DPS, and elemental is only better for a few monsters. (Still can hit about 6000 damage on Gravios/3000 on Raths/etc.)
-ED2 is your highest DPS move (you actually do get higher DPS looping AAY in Wilds than AAAA, but the two loops have different peaks and AAYA will be behind AAAA if you don't get the next move off.)
-Status CBs are super strong
The main difference is that savage axe exists, but it's kind of a superficial thing, like it doesn't actually change what do the most damage. Also, because the current monsters are too easy to stagger and don't have enough HP, sword counterattack loses a lot of the power it should have (with Offensive Guard being a completely busted skill), but we'll get to see this get stronger with Master Rank or other ways of making monsters get more attacks off.
