"Too easy" is telling
Seems most reviewers didn't get out of low rank, HR and some story quests even are brutal later on...looking at you mega octopus...

Pray tell is there a third octopus that isn't Xu Wu or Nu Udra?

It's a quest variant Nu Udra in HR.

When is this? Is this above HR50? I think Nu udra isn't properly implemented, you can squeeze in between it's tentacles and just wail on it and it will just drag you along with it while you attack, giving you a VERY LONG damage window.

I saw a YouTuber show a T.Gravios clear with a 1:35 timer on their second try. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LMAO
Wait til you see what people can do in World with similar clear times. It's called the speedrunning community and they're superfreaks.

So Nu Udra with the same kit? Oh no it's slightly more caked up, whatever shall I do. Oh wait, I'll just mash some more with my DB. Shall I also introduce you to a lance shield which completely blocks the fire attack?

Lol, yet I'm the one gatekeeping 'eh?

Funny how people like you and Soviet act...Steam forums are wild lol.

It's called learning the mechanics? You're acting like HR is a big jump in this game. it's not. You can roflstomp Tier 1 and 2 HR monsters with high end LR gear.

Yeah this game doesn't have joss whedon writing. It has lame melodrama.

Those are the only two ways western fiction can exist.

Deconstruction or reddit comedy.
It's not Western fiction though.

It's a Japanese game.

Even with what I pick up without the subtitles, this is melodramatic anime storytelling. It's about as tropey as anime can get. Filled with as much uwaaa sasuga aibo and "aitsu ga... *holds fist dramatically*" as any flavour of the month shonen. World and Rise were identical in this regard. I'm not saying it's amazing, I just don't find it grating or distasteful -- unless I have it in English.

Ya, the kids ideology relating to arkveld and crying about him when the thing tried to kill him initially is generic Japanese story telling.
Rise's characters are literally just blatant anime tropes.

Like "big titty onee-san" is an entire character in Rise.

But when the Rise characters were in quests with me going HORRAAAAAAAH it was charming.

Not really getting that from the stronk women who support me in this game, though they are pretty bad ass.
Most reviewers will just play the story and put out a review, they can't put 200 hours into the game and put out a review in time for embargo

Yeah I'll admit the village vibe in Rise had me absolutely pumped when they jumped in in quests. That's more portrayed in this game in... cutscenes? I find my Palico charming but then again I have him tuned to sound like Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle.

If you fire an SOS flare you can get Olivia to join in, she's a fun support but yeah, you're right, it's not the same as Rise.

Still, I maintain that throughout all of World, Rise, and Wilds, every single character is a cardboard cutout of an anime trope. Elder Fugen and the Admiral from World are practically identical, down to their hands-on-hip shonen anime laugh.
16h in and I haven't failed a single quest and seems like I am 2 monster away from beating the story. It's easy, especially if you use bow because wounds do too much damage but I think it's just so that we can enjoy the story better without being stuck on a boss, maybe? The challenge will probably come in high/monster rank, hopefully.

"You have to play 200 hours, then it gets fun". Nah bro, I'm not buying it.

Man the people saying this are all farming decos at endgame with 30 hours played.

This game isnt running that distance.

In this game you're a bad ass. Theres some real sakuga hero scenes that are cool. But the camp people are all mid.

Switch axe user. Only quest I guess the game considered failed was due to game crash. I get back in the game and Alma immediately is all "It's OK. We can try again." I did NOT fail that quest Alma!

Probably my favorite moment in the story so far was getting pulled into the Xu Wu fight immediately after the Ebony Odogarron just because I wasn't expecting it to happen.

What this games problem is is that it isnt engaging. The dopamine associated with gear progression is meaningless since you dont need it. The game is on rails and you cant die. It's not very engaging.
Again, speak for yourself. I've had to farm for materials to get better armour twice already. The rest I was fashion hunting. I like the costumes and toying with new, higher powered weapon types.

I was kind of a glass cannon. I stuck with Chainmail most of the game because of the geologist perks. Aside from that ran a few Balahara pieces once it unlocked for the evade extender which made switch axe feel so much better. But yeah, I don't think I swapped armor again until almost the last quest or two where I swapped a few pieces to Arkveld cause holy crap I loved the skills on that set.

I love the blue look on the guardians but honestly them planting their little trees that you can blow up with slinger ammo makes them a bit of a pushover. Arkveld was the first fight where I really felt I had to put in a lot more effort.

"i never upgraded my armor, just dont upgrade your armor"

It's crazy to me that people defend monster hunter being dumbed down by telling us not to play monster hunter.

gear farming is the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

Funny, I see NOTHING in my post telling other players "Don't upgrade your gear." I just said FOR ME it wasn't worth doing as I liked the perks from the early sets and it wasn't until far later where I finally found better perks.

Also, let's be real, the low rank sets are incredibly boring this time around. Few skills and not even decorations to customize them a bit. Was a long wait to reach high rank and finally get gear that was worth considering again.
as an aside the armor and weapons in this game look incredible.
